Two Men Injured In Separate Incidents
In two separate incidents, a 35-year-old man “suffered a suspected stab wound to the upper torso,” and a 52-year-old man was reportedly assaulted with a machete.
A police spokesperson said, “Shortly before 1:00am on Sunday, October 13, 2024, police responded to a reported assault at the Zen Lounge, Somerset Road, Sandys Parish. Upon arrival, officers were informed a 35-year-old male had suffered a suspected stab wound to the upper torso.
“He was reportedly driven from the scene in a private vehicle before being transferred to an ambulance which was already in the area responding to an unrelated medical incident.
“He was subsequently transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where, at last check, he continued to receive treatment for his injury which is considered life threatening.
“Around 7:45pm on Saturday, October 12, 2024, a 52-year-old male attended Hamilton Police Station to report that he was the victim of a wounding.
“He told officers that he was near the doorway to Spinning Wheel when an unknown male described as tall, slim built, and dark complexioned made a comment to him.
“The suspect then allegedly pushed the 52-year-old male to the ground. Another male then pulled a machete from his waistband and assaulted the 52-year-old male, leaving him with a non-life-threatening injury to his right hand.
“He was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was attended to for his injury and discharged.
“Both matters are now under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the main police number 295-0011, 211 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477.
“If you’d prefer to, please share the information with a police officer you know or use the community reporting portal.”
Does the BPS have a database of machete cuts? I thought there was paperwork required to own a machete.
Wth are you talking about nobody needs paperwork for a machete. If that’s a law then nobody is enforcing it. But it can’t be because everyone has one and nobody has paperwork. Go to any hardware store and buy it
I believe in order to carry a machete in public you need to have a connection to a landscaping company or similar and it needs to be covered with a sheath or similar otherwise it is considered a weapon .
Anyone can purchase a machete. There are no restrictions.
The issue is leaving your property with it. It should come as no surprise that people have been seen walking down the road with a machete in hand. It should also come as no surprise that when questioned that person will say “I am on my way to trim a hedge”. Sometimes that will be true, sometimes not.
It is against the law to be in public with a bladed article without “good reason”. If you are on the road outside your house trimming your hedge, I would suggest that you have “good reason” for being there with your machete. If you are in the Botanical Gardens with your machete and you do not work for the Department of Parks you are in trouble.
I walk on the street in front of my house with a machete once a month, a rake, dustpan weed eater and blower too. I clean the road on both sides and have done, along with a section by my mom’s, for over 20 years, I am writing up a bill now and my lawyer will be seeking a complete refund on my land taxes for that period.
Well, I like to take my machete out for long walks after it has been cleaned, sharpened, and oiled. Trejo enjoys the fresh sea air and sunshine. How could the well-being of my friend be against the law?
It is not like I am carrying a screwdriver in my pocket just in case I find a loose screw somewhere that requires my attention. That would be dangerous if one were to slip and fall.
Where do you take your machete for walks? I might grab my chainsaw and join you.
Middle Road in Devonshire to Hamilton and back. When riding my bicycle, sometimes I take Trejo with me to trim the overhang. With enough speed, the razor-sharp edge slices through anything up to about two inches thick.
I gave up on carrying a screwdriver (phillips and straight head) a long time ago as there seemed to be no-one needing them .Now I carry a nice ice-pick . Lotsa people out there need help with their 5 gallon blocks of ice and compacted snow cones .
Yes, I have seen those icepicks with the rotating tips — pointed, Philips, straight, torx, and bottle opener. It seems like a handy thing to have.
There are so many thousands of local laws even laws on the dusty shelf from the horse and buggy and push bike days, including a number of policies and theories or interpretations to be assumed by others in the field these day, that all says NO !
Not even a may be !
Why are most of the laws requiring an interpreter, as written in ” Legal English” ( got ya ! ) does that mean that the our laws do not apply others .
Eg :
I worked in a Bank where you need to know how to speek or at least understand up to 15 diferent languages .
Most of the tellers did not know what a cheque is / was !
” I put that down to a useless piece of paper till proven other wise “.
We are presumed to be guilty before we get in a car or hop on a bike .
Bus drivers and inmates excluded .
Kind of makes the voters loose respect for the law makers and their associates.
35 K even if you are walking. !
“We are presumed to be guilty before we get in a car or hop on a bike ”
Guilty of what? The police do not enforce the Road Traffic Act and have not done so for decades.
Joe Bloogs
A bit of poetic licence if you don’t mind .
Use your imagination !

Show up to His Majesties Traffic Court on any Monday morning as a spectator , only to find that there’ll be standing room only.
I noticed three motorcycle policemen this morning on a cruising trip heading South West, that had to be a little more than “police presence “.
I can only assume that they were out on a bike hunting trip.
Of course the Police Service have been enforcing trafic laws.
The police had all black Sunbeam Talbots the night prowlers and big Triumph bikes.
Trafic offenses have always been a Government revenge earner ,been that way since I was 14 years old racing 50 cc bikes .
You get caught you got to face judge Minty, no mercy there !
((( We were a nations engineers of Smiths Parish, tinkerers extraordinaire , we hotted up and drilled out bike exhaust silencers, Mobiletts Krydlers and Zundaps got ground down cylinder heads .
Later I graduated to a 4 stroke Ducati which I could make the valves float.)))
On Frday nights the young people after an evening of dancing to Glen Miller and friends , we raced from Witney Institute to Little Venice some towed a girl on the back .
Come last, you had to pay for every bodies the milk shakes .
There is a difference between and racing and speeding any idiot can speed, racing is fine art, get caught you are a speeder .
Times have not changed !
Speeding had been a national on going pastime an exercise in skill, endurance and high degree of stupidity .
Group racing not as popular these days , we now see the Loan Wolfe ,however since it all started it has been that way for some 74 years.
History in the making, boys and girls.
I am not moaning about pack racing or speeding, it is deliberately ignoring stop signs and traffic lights that bothers me.
People do not even slow down for stop signs any more, and twice this year I have had to take evasive action at traffic lights in town because drivers were running red lights in their cars when I had the green light.
The stop sign does not say how long that you are required to stop , theroritally you could be there all day ,bring your own lunch !
Stop signs located at a secondary road intersections to highways while waiting for on coming trafic to clear , most likely always somebody travelling and claiming legal right of way on the main road at excessive speed , this acton with risk will not alow sufficient time for a vehicle at a stop sign to cross out and over the lines to make a right turn over on to the other side of the main road .
In actual fact this become a exercise judgement tainted with always life threating risk .
A classic example note the blind “T” intersection Church road to South Shore road Southampton , on coming trafic traveling East at excessive speed makes it virtually imposable for cars to exit the stop sign during the day.
It is advisable for the driver of the vehicle leaving the stop sign the option to blow the vehicles horn hard at least three times that may work on all blind corners as a warning during to day or flask the high beams at night.
A side impact will usually total the car with the driver crushed in it .
Car owners could run the gauntlet if they stuck the front end of their car out well beyond the stop signs white line with the risk here is that the on coming car could to slam on their brakes risking a rear end collision or incrlude your car in a double colision.
By the way there is no such thing as an accident there are all collisions.
It would be great if every one would exercise greater care while driving .
It is not too much to ask for driver self restraint !
Got to stop the road rage, as it is not healthy !
Can an on coming car traveling above legal speed limitation ( or drunk driving ) claim prior legal right of way?
Is that or can that be a matter of oppinion !
HINT
While giving discription to police do that at least 100 feet away from the scene .
You will be shaken an posibly hurt real bad ! Medical help , always must be your first priority !
MANY THANKS to all first responders you all deserve more !
“The stop sign does not say how long that you are required to stop”
Quite true. But in the old days (1970s and 1980s), drivers and riders were required to come to a full stop. Not so any more.
I had a car behind me on Camp Rd to Middle rd 7am this morning, still quite dark . I was waiting for the traffic from the west end to exit onto middle rd to turn right and the car actually went around me on the opposite side blocking Camp Rd totally and when i saw a clearing i proceeded to turn right onto middle rd and the car proceeded at the same time still on the opposite side of the road , luckily nothing was coming the other way .
I have never seen this in all my years so cars are now doing what bikes are doing !
Yup. Young people know that the police do not enforce the Road Traffic Act and they feel entitled to drive as they please and to ignore what used to be called the rules of the road.
STOP AT WHAT AND FOR WHY when not a person or vehicle in line of sight ?
Bermudians, are with out doubt a unique group of people .
Be proud of our selves !
Ocasionally some often regard a stop signs being what we call a” rolling stop” it is noted here the word ” complete” as I have said with no time limit or penalty applied or inferred never the less the word, is omitted or lost in antiquity ..
In the Southen United States. stop signs are often used for target practice, the “O” or doenut is most sort after .
Traffic lights are not much better than a second rate light show! untill there is power outage in certain areas ! Then what ?
This is where we as people rare group for sure ,are some of the best drivers on the planet we come to a complete stop be it only for a one hundreth of a second or the lesser portion there of, never the less a stop with no rime or reason given they have a camera .
Assuming the Go! bit is at you own risk the Stop does not eliminate any potential risk.
In the Army you alway obey the last order ieveb if your ears are ringing
Our laws are definable as infinite and un~ questionable in structure.
Tell me about it ! and for want to reason is it the intent ? Stop is not intent !
We would like hear about “GO once in a while , me talk about that as it is on the list when I feel like it !
The sign shows Stop and Stop shall mean in certain circles as not Stop and not Go, but Stop is Stop and for what reason ? having no illuminated pre warning attached or any reference to GO ! , we could proceed only if when nine or ten cars or more are piled up behind us .
