‘Another Successful Year’ For Championship

The Butterfield Bermuda Championship ”concluded another successful year, solidifying its place as a key event on Bermuda’s sports calendar,” the Government said today.

A Government spokesperson said, “Held at the Port Royal Golf Course, this PGA TOUR tournament continues to draw international attention, create significant economic benefits, and provide charitable support to the local community.”

Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport Owen Darrell joined officials, players, and spectators at this year’s event and commended everyone involved for their hard work and dedication.

“This event showcases Bermuda’s ability to host world-class sporting events while bringing tangible benefits to our economy and community,” said Minister Darrell. “It’s a testament to the hard work of everyone behind the scenes and an opportunity to inspire the next generation to see what’s possible in the sport of golf.”

The Government spokesperson said, “A special moment during this year’s championship was the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to MP Kim Swan, recognizing his decades of contributions to the sport of golf in Bermuda.

“From his remarkable achievements as a professional golfer to his ongoing commitment to mentoring and inspiring young golfers, MP Swan’s legacy continues to shape the future of the sport on the island. Minister Darrell extended heartfelt congratulations, calling it a ‘well-deserved honour for an individual who has dedicated his life to promoting golf and its values.’

“Despite some challenges with the weather, the tournament proceeded smoothly, with players and organizers adapting to ensure a memorable week. The Butterfield Bermuda Championship continues to bring global recognition to the island while promoting tourism and local businesses.

“The tournament also highlights the important role golf plays in Bermuda’s identity. Beyond the competition, it offers opportunities for Bermuda’s youth to engage with the sport and see firsthand the doors it can open. The Port Royal Golf Course, tournament title sponsor Butterfield, along with the Bermuda Tourism Authority and numerous other supporters, were recognized for their commitment to ensuring the success of this event.”

Chairman of the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Wayne Caines, emphasized the event’s importance stating, “The Butterfield Bermuda Championship exemplifies the transformative power of sports tourism, leveraging one of our signature sports- golf- to deliver on every pillar of the Bermuda National Tourism Plan.

By merging world-class competition with community impact and global exposure, this championship continues to position Bermuda as a leader in sports tourism while driving sustainable growth.”
