Changes To Financial Assistance, TCD Policies
The government is expected to announce that a $100 monthly personal allowance to cover the cost of personal care items will be added for people on financial assistance and the Ministry of Transport will reduce the number of vehicle inspections required in the first five years for a new vehicle.
In advance of tomorrow’s reading of The Speech from The Throne, a Cabinet Office spokesperson this evening advised that the Government is expected to announce that: “Most persons receiving financial assistance are seniors and persons with disabilities, many of whom are in rest or nursing homes.
“To further enhance their dignity and bring added relief to those families supporting them, the Financial Assistance Regulations 2004 will be amended to add a $100 monthly personal allowance to cover the cost of personal care items; allowing this vulnerable population to meet basic hygiene needs.
“Additionally, earlier this year, the Government undertook a ‘red tape reduction’ consultation. Implementing the suggestions from the public has been made a clear directive to the Public Service and the challenge has been met.
“The Ministry of Transport will eliminate the requirement to undergo a medical examination every ten years as part of the driver’s licence renewal process until age 70; and will reduce the number of vehicle inspections required in the first five years for a new vehicle.”
