Public Officers Engage In Leadership Program
Close to 20 public officers from the Public Service Leadership team, including Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments are “actively engaged in an executive leadership development programme designed to provide current executives with the necessary tools and innovative capacity in leadership.”
A Government spokesperson said, “The programme, delivered by the Government Experience Exchange Office [GEEO] of the United Arab Emirates, offers an array of training sessions aimed at reinforcing the participants’ learning journey. In addition to the comprehensive training, the participants have collaborated on capstone projects focused on finding practical and implementable solutions to various public policy challenges.
“The Executive Leadership Programme is one of several areas of cooperation between the UAE and Bermuda Government formalized through the Memorandum of Understanding on Experience Exchange on Government Development and Modernisation signed this summer by the Hon. Jason Hayward, Minister of Economy and Labour, and His Excellency Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange.
“Another area of cooperation includes the Bermuda Coders Initiative, a groundbreaking digital skills education programme. This was launched two weeks ago and is available to every Bermudian and Bermuda-based learner, free of charge, for an entire year.”
“The Bermuda Government is pleased to be collaborating with the United Arab Emirates and is grateful for the UAE’s commitment to global excellence,” said Minister Hayward.
“The UAE’s commitment to such excellence is reflected in their decision to provide these opportunities to the Public Service Leadership team, including travel and accommodation, at no cost to the Bermuda Government.”
The spokesperson said, “Minister Hayward noted the public service is also taking advantage of the UAE’s government accelerator which seeks to embrace adaptive innovation to secure rapid change in government at an accelerated pace.
“This weekend, the team travelled to the UAE, where they will visit leading entities aligned with their capstone projects. During their visit, they will have the opportunity to present their work, engage with experts, and learn from an innovation-driven government.”
The Head of the Public Service Cherie Whitter said, “This programme represents a unique opportunity for our leadership team to gain valuable insights and foster a culture of innovation within our government. We are confident that the skills and knowledge gained through this experience will greatly benefit Bermuda and enhance our public service delivery.”
The spokesperson said, “The Government of Bermuda is committed to investing in the development of its leaders to ensure they are well-equipped to meet the evolving demands of governance. The executive leadership development programme inclusive of the UAE component is a testament to this commitment and the continuous pursuit of excellence in public service.”
