Karen Smith Wins Iron Man Age Group
Karen Smith delivered an outstanding performance at Ironman Cozumel in Mexico, claiming victory in the 55 – 59 year old group.
Smith navigated the 2.4-mile swim in 1:02:16. She then tackled the demanding 112-mile bike course, completing it in 5:48:01 and finishing the 26.2-mile marathon run in 3:51:12. Her overall time of 10:15:12 earned her 161st place overall out of 1,115 competitors and first place in the female 55-59 age group division.
Athletic excellence is a family affair for the Smith family, as Karen Smith’s son Tyler Smith made his Olympic debut earlier this year, and they recently competed together as a family team at the Cambridge Beaches triathlon.
