The Bermuda men’s national football team will face Honduras in the Concacaf Gold Cup preliminary round in March next year.

Bermuda qualified for the preliminaries of the regional competition after finishing runners-up in group D of League B of the Nations League with 12 points from six matches.

The preliminaries will feature 14 teams competing in home-and-away games, with the highest-ranked side facing the lowest-ranked based on the regional body’s rankings.

The winners will advance to the group stage of the Concacaf Gold Cup group stage next year.

Bermuda’s chances have been boosted after Honduras were ordered to play their next home match behind closed doors after Mexico coach Javier Aguirre was struck by a can of beer when the two countries played each other in a Concacaf Nations League game.

The dates of preliminary round games will be released in the coming weeks.
