Tristan Robinson Enjoying Medal Success
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Tristan Robinson has achieved remarkable success since venturing into international kickboxing competitions, earning accolades at a young age.
The nine-year-old made his debut on the global stage at the Pan American Kung Fu Championships in Ontario, Canada, in August last year, where he secured a silver medal.
Building on that strong start, he struck gold twice this year – first at the Phoenix Wushu Nationals in Phoenix, Arizona, in March, and then at the Pan American Wushu Championships in Santa Clara, California, in September.
Having started training with the Bermuda Sanshou Association [BSA] at just five years old after moving to the island from Canada, Robinson is part of a new wave of talented young martial artists, including Jonathan Trott, Geraldine Sidders, Michael Tristan Burgess, and Muryah Swan.
“Representing the Bermuda Sanshou Association makes me happy,” Robinson told Bernews.
“I enjoy being part of a team and have made many friends. We all help each other. It’s fun competing and a great opportunity to travel to other places.”
A student at Warwick Academy, Robinson credits much of his growth to the guidance of several coaches, including Garon Wilkinson, the BSA president, Cyril Whitter, Dirk Everlyn, Sentwali Woolridge, and Oscar Lightbourne.
He also finds inspiration in his team-mates Krista Dyer and Kaelin Cox.
“I’ve showed some talent for the sport, but I’ve had to work hard,” he said. “I love it and intend to keep on going.”
Robinson’s passion for kickboxing extends to his family, as his sister, Yara Robinson, also competes for the BSA.
