‘Zhamir Strong’ Fundraiser Held In England
Bermudians in the UK came together for a recent football tournament fundraiser in Coventry in support of Zhamir Denbrook-Pitt, who suffered life-changing injuries in a motorcycle crash.
The 19-year-old sustained a severe spinal injury in a collision in St David’s in July 2023.
The family and friends of Zhamir hope to raise $255,000 [£210,000] via a GoFundPage to cover medical costs and help pay for specialised care and therapy to improve his condition.
Organised by Dennis Zuill, a former Dandy Town and Bermuda footballer, the Second Annual Zhamir Strong Football Classic featured a match between the ZhamirStrong All-Stars and Dunlop All-Stars.
“We had a tournament in that involved friends of Zhamir’s – Bermudians and lads he knows in the UK,” Zuill told Bernews.
“They took on an over-50 side involving players from one of my projects for Sky Blues in the Community [the charity arm of Sky Bet League One side Coventry City].
“I have to give a massive thank you to all the Bermudians in the UK who took time out to travel to Coventry to support the event.”
Zuill, who works as a lead coach for Sky Blues in the Community and coaches Dunlop FC, added: “All funds raised will toward helping Zhamir’s surgeries to help him recover as much as he can.
“We’ve had some really generous contributions on Zhamir’s GoFundMe Page and during the day itself.”
