People attended the Verdmont Museum grounds on Saturday to explore the historic site, and enjoy a Storywalk installation of Abigail’s Dream Adventures by local author Karen Franks.

A spokesperson said, “There were approximately 400 treasure hunters and pirates scouring through the Verdmont Museum grounds this past Saturday. All were there to learn about the jewel of the National Trust properties, Verdmont, and to hear one of the stories of Abigail’s Dream Adventures, written by local author Karen Franks. The new Storywalk installation of her book was unveiled at Saturday’s event.

“There were balloon creatures created by Gary Robinson as well as face painting and baked goods for sale by the D.R.E.A.M. Girls Club. Free beverages were provided by Barritts. Visitors were able to tour the Verdmont House and grounds and learn about the amazing history of the house that was built from the proceeds of pirate bounty.

“The pirate-themed event was a partnership between the Bermuda National Library, Youth Services, Marla Smith, Bermuda National Trust, Chris Davies Museum Manager and Anna Stevenson Education Officer. The Storywalk initiative is sponsored by Deloitte.

“The aim of the initiative is to encourage family literacy and connect reading with local history and culture.”
