QBE Foundation Supports BZS Programme
The QBE Foundation made a significant donation to the Bermuda Zoological Society [BZS] through their corporate community investment programme.
A spokesperson said, “With a focus on building strong, resilient and inclusive communities in which QBE serves, the donation provides funds to make the most impactful contribution to essential areas of local education and conservation initiatives.
James Anfossi, QBE Foundation representative; Philippe Bacon, BZS President; Thomas Lowe, QBE Foundation Committee Chairman. Southampton Preschool students Yara Phillips and Ny-aze Edwards-Robinson, who were with the BZS Education team for a lesson called Little Green Footprints.
“With the BZS mission of “inspiring appreciation and care of island environments” and a focus on building environmental stewardship in our community, the donation will help to continue to sustain BZS’s Schools Programmes, which reaches thousands of school children every year through free BZS resources.
“The support directly funds the resources, experiences and opportunities that make the BZS education programmes transformative for Bermuda’s youth, cultivating the next generation of conservationists.
“Providing thousands of school children with learning opportunities that link directly to the school curriculum, the BZS Education programme engages and interacts with students in a meaningful way by using nature as their classroom.”
Stephanie Toro, BZS Education Officer, said, “One of the greatest highs of this job is seeing that one student who may have a hard time in the traditional school classroom. Our classes immerse them in a learning environment where they can be loud and move around, they can engage in authentic learning in the outdoors. You immediately see a change, when they realize this is a place they can thrive.”
Philippe Bacon, President of the BZS added: “Thanks to the generous donation from the QBE Foundation, the BZS can continue to provide an immersive, student-centred education programme that improves students’ academic success in science by connecting them to the natural world. It is essential that we can provide these resources for free, so that we can continue to reach all students and nurture Bermuda’s future eco-stewards. We appreciate that the BZS Education Programme aligns with the QBE Foundation’s mission to foster a more resilient community, and we thank them for their incredible support.”
Thomas Lowe Chair of the QBE Foundation Bermuda added: “We are thrilled to be able to support this initiative which helps build the resilience of our young people and a greater appreciation of our natural environment.”
A spokesperson added, “Along with the donation to the BZS, the QBE team are also dedicated to supporting BZS conservation projects through QBE’s community giving days.”
