PLP Announce Arianna Hodgson As Candidate
The PLP announced that Senator Arianna Hodgson will be their candidate for Constituency 25 Warwick North East.
A spokesperson said, “The Progressive Labour Party [PLP] is proud to announce Senator Arianna Hodgson as its candidate for Constituency 25 in the upcoming General Election. This announcement comes as the PLP continues to build on its legacy of delivering fairness, opportunity, and progress for all Bermudians.
“During a press conference today, Premier and Party Leader, David Burt expressed his gratitude to the retiring MP for Constituency 25, the Hon. Ianthia Simmons-Wade, for her years of dedicated service to the community and to Bermuda.”
“MP Simmons-Wade has been a tireless advocate for the people of Constituency 25, always putting the needs of her constituents first. Her leadership and compassion have left an indelible mark, and we are forever grateful for her service,” said the Premier.
The Premier said, “Senator Hodgson is a dynamic leader with a proven record of service to Bermuda. Her professional background in human resources and talent management, her work as an entrepreneur, and her roles as Senator and Junior Minister have prepared her to tackle the challenges ahead. Arianna is passionate about women’s issues, families, and fairness, and I am confident that she will bring energy, accessibility, and dedication to her representation of Constituency 25,” the Premier stated.
Senator Hodgson shared her vision for the constituency and her commitment to serving the people.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to represent the people of Constituency 25. My professional experiences, my work as the founder of The Good Mom and in the Senate have shaped my commitment to fighting for policies that support families, women, and entrepreneurs. I will be an active, engaged, and approachable representative, working to ensure that your voices are heard and that your needs are prioritized,” said Senator Hodgson.
“The PLP has made tremendous strides in making Bermuda fairer for all—whether it’s increasing seniors’ pensions, introducing the first minimum wage, or expanding the child daycare allowance. These policies reflect our Party’s values, and I am committed to continuing this work to push Bermuda forward,” she said.
The spokesperson said, “The announcement aligns with the PLP’s vision, outlined in the recent Throne Speech and mid-year review, to deliver policies that prioritize fairness, strengthen the economy, and improve the lives of all Bermudians.
“The PLP remains focused on addressing the needs of Bermuda’s residents and building a brighter future for our island. With Senator Hodgson as the candidate for Constituency 25, the Party is confident in its ability to continue serving Bermudians with integrity, dedication, and vision.”
The seat is currently held by the PLP, and according to the OBA website their candidate for this seat is Senator Douglas De Couto.
Excellent choice!
“The PLP has made tremendous strides in making Bermuda fairer for all”
No it hasn’t, the cost of groceries and electricity and the price of transport has wiped out the benefits.
You say fairer for ALL, That is a blatent lie ! Not a good start.
You are right! No matter what face they pick the PLP is fundamentally flawed and have lost their way. Their picks constantly show they are not putting the best people in place to govern this country.
Bermuda deserves better than the PLP! Time for them to go.
“Their picks constantly show they are not putting the best people in place to govern this country.”
Do you remember what Vance Campbell said when he left the PLP? He said the PLP Government is very good at politics but is not good at managing Bermuda.
Oh please, you are only quoting Vance in that instance because it suits your narrative.
BTW who is running in Smith’s West? Vance or Vic?
And what do you say is my “narrative”?
I have known Vance for decades and I respect his integrity.
Did you respect his integrity when he was a PLP Senator and MP and Minister or only now that he has “seen the light”?
As I said, I have known Vance for decades and I respect his integrity.
My respect for Vance’s integrity has nothing to do with his politics, it transcends his time as a politician. Why are you not capable of understanding that? Does your prejudice get in the way?
Congratulations! You just won the dumb nut award if you respect Vance’s integrity. The man was just in the PLP.
And like others, your prejudice blinds you to reality.
First, i live there and have never even heard of this woman or the previous person who was “my” MP. She never once came by my house nor has she done anything that i am aware of. Now i am happy to give this lady a chance but if she is like the rest of the PLP, no thanks. “Fairer”?!?!? do they think we are stupid> oh yes, they do. They have done absolutely nothing to make Bermuda better and have only made it worse. Please for the love of God let the PLP go the way of the dodo bird!
” i live there and have never even heard of this woman or the previous person”
Ianthia Simmons-Wade is the widow of the late Freddie Wade.
so they gave it to her because of her husband? regardless, i still never saw her in my neighbourhood and never heard about anything that she did. All i know is that life keeps getting more and more expensive and everything is getting worse and worse under this government. For the love of god, what do we have to do to break their hold on people? we need this for the betterment of our country!
This area does not know what it wants 1998 to 2012 Mr Butler knocked on your doors 5 times a year plus, had Saturday clinics, scholarships, employment sign ups and so much more plus 2 years of free seminars with Rodney Smith to learn how to buy a house with little or no money down. Not one replacement from the Plp or OBA ever came close to what he did but the voters kicked him out so they get what they deserve….nothing… walls built, mirrors installed , newsletters and he sent a self address stamped letter for them to say where they stood on gay rights and casinos and the response was about 50 people, if I recall who put the envelope in the mail. You reap what you so. Vote for Joe Bloggs he knows it all.
Another one deemed ready to graduate from MP wanna be nursery school, aka The Senate.
She may be a very nice person. Put in time here and there but what is she really? What is she by profession? Is she a business owner? A professional of some sort?
What does she do? Her job? What makes her MP material? Family ties mean nothing.
It is only in the last fifty year that in order to obtain a job in Bermuda in the private sector a person was required to have credentials .
With the exception of a few ministers in government , who were local usually business men / women. or a highly respectected member of the community.
Failing that in the private sector an individual had to produce a list of References , Qualifications, Education , Employment records,.
Skill set for theis selection of those people were often drawn from family of the wealthy business people.
For those who were not fortunate to receive a qualifying education ,
Ability to do the job was all that was required . ( This requirement often exceed scalastic achievement )
Things chanced as sucessfull sports men where often selected, ocasionally a few lawyer and bankers became interested.
Some may remember the Thursday half day holiday which enabled local business owner to attend parliament. Here is when the advent of import duty and land tax came in to being .
Qualified people today aparantly prefer to remain in their own business an not give of their time as todays MP’s who have many tasks on their plate as Government today is far biggerthan day than the 12 MCP who ran the Island back then as there were much fewer local people with hundreds of visitors , the hotel business was booming, in cludind domestic construction the city became much larger.
Then things tapered off USA merchants became in direct competition with our local vendors retail business unfortunately dried up.
Filling the local financial gap became increasingly more dificlult visitors stop spending our visitor became day trippers on cruise ships . The shios purser had hold og the credit card .
The cost of living as we import virtually every thing even for a vacation here was beyound the means of the average Hotel visitor . hotels were bein imploded or closed for renovations smaller properties barely survived Air B & B had their glory days but not for long.
Then came the exodus of many people who for some reason or may not have see a future in Bermuda for them selves .
Bermuda has out spent its means of its income.
Many may ask where are we to day?
Go to the man in the street .
Let us start the conversation there with inflation.
