Albouy Relocates To AXA XL’s Singapore Office

Shakeem Albouy Bermuda January 2025Bermudian Shakeem Albouy has relocated from AXA XL’s Bermuda office to work as a Cyber Underwriter in the company’s Singapore office.

A spokesperson said, “Thirty-year-old Shakeem has seized opportunities afforded to him by the company since starting with AXA XL in September 2022 as a Professional Lines Underwriter.

“In 2023, he received recognition by The Bermudian magazine as a Rising Star which by the publication’s definition is a young person, under 30, who is doing an outstanding job in their industry and looks to be climbing the ladder fairly rapidly.

“In 2024, he was nominated in an independent survey conducted by the Bermuda Re+IL publication as ‘as an industry rising star in Bermuda’. Last year he also successfully completed a secondment in AXA XL’s New York office where he spent one month with the Underwriting Cyber Team.

“Shakeem, like many in the insurance industry, came into the profession by chance. He initially worked in the hospitality industry but aher exploring FinTech courses and enrolling in the first full-stack web development course at Bermuda College, he realized his passion was technology and finding innovative solutions.”

“Little did I know that this passion would lead me to the fascinating world of data science, where I discovered the power of extracting meaningful insights from vast amounts of information. It was through this journey that I realized the immense value data science brings to the insurance industry, enabling us to make more informed decisions, improve efficiency, and ultimately provide better services to our clients,” Mr Albouy said.

The spokesperson said, “He believes the appeal of the insurance industry to young professionals is the potential for financial independence and the opportunity to work with well-known global companies.”

“It also provides potential for international relocation and clear pathways for career advancement, making it an ideal field for ambitious individuals seeking rapid professional growth and diverse experiences,” he said.
