BELCO has resumed transmission upgrade work in the west end, with work continuing daily from 7.00am through 7.00pm.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO] today advised that transmission upgrade works has resumed in the west end of the island. Works resumed with the opening of cable joint holes to facilitate the pulling and jointing of underground transmission cables on Middle Road in the Warwick Pond area and will continue between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm daily.

“Traffic is restricted to one lane with traffic controls in place. Motorists are asked to drive carefully through this section or make use of detour routes via South Road or Harbour Road. Works will continue westward along Middle Road to Lighthouse Road and Southampton Princess. Crews will progress approximately 800 feet per week, with the single lane closure area moving with them.

“Progress updates will be posted on belco.bm. The public is encouraged to exercise extreme caution when driving, walking or riding near BELCO working crews and/or open trenches as safety is paramount. BELCO Managing Director Shelly Leman said: “We are in the final stages of our transmission upgrade project and I appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as these essential works take place.

“Once completed, we will have a modern, more robust grid that will assist in our journey towards a more sustainable energy future.”
