  1. Mr. Apathy says:

This would almost be funny if they weren’t actually taking the nonsense coming from their mouths seriously.

The PLP certainly supports families (and friends), so long as its their own families that stand to benefit whilst everyone else suffers.

Also, does the PLP have mass amnesia that they have been running the country for the vast majority of the last 30 years? They’re trying taking credit for attempting to (not succeeding) solve issues they themselves have been the root cause of.

    Do better Bermuda…

    • Ringmaster says:

Fiscal incompetence on show. Affordable housing? Studio and 1 bedroom homes for Bermudian families, while spending $125+m of tax payer money on Grand Atlantic 2 – 3 bed condos to be rented to expats. Incidentally, when is the opening ceremony, it was supposed to be ready in December (2024)?
What is to show for fairness since 1998? Mass emigration, failed education, failed infrastructure, massive debt. Boasting that the tax payer subsidized Southampton Princess will be open in 2026? It is supposed to be shrouded in scaffolding, any one see any? Total bunch of dreamers.
As to CIT, it is highly unlikely to produce anything close the Burt’s estimates, especially as he is the only person in all the financial world who apparently knows what will be paid.

      • Question says:

The first ‘opening ceremony’ was in 2011, when Minister Weeks announced they had ‘100 buyers lined up’.

When you include interest in the borrowed money used for this failure of a project, it’s well over $200m.

        • Hey says:

Bermudians need to realize, that this was your money the PLP spent. Now they are a,in you to pay exorbitant rents to live there. Oh, an you won’t ever see a penny of it.

  2. Mark says:

    Just plain lies and nonsense.

  3. PAC MAN says:

The Berrmudiana beach became an apparent destany by beingdoomed to failure project when Mr D. Wingate gave his unqualified opinionon by chalenging the structural integrity of the water front cliff face .

” Putty and paint solves many a complaint ” So does reinforced concrete .

We can find fault with every building in Bermuda when many of building are built on sand stone foundations that was
unduely critiqued , as was concrete block 60 years ago, now every body is using it.

This sort of disapproval happens alot in Bermuda when people purpously look to find fault with virtually every thing.

there are always solutions to every problem real or un real .

Many will remember the Butterfly roof house with it reverse angle roof being two opiosing shed roof in unusual construction which still stands today , as the roof in not going to blow off in a hurricane any time soon .

Finding fault does not solve the problems as solution offered by structural engineers works every time.
how can people with an untrained eye complain when the building is not finished.

Time for workable solutions stage two .

We can no longer see out tax money fail.
just put our bains in gear as winter is never the best time to marker realestate.

SUCESSFULL MARKETING is the only way to go by finding is appeal and posative suitability as a residence for local or a tourist attraction as an extended vacation home.

If Beyonce took up residence people would kick the door down to get in .

it is not what you do in life that matters it is how you do it .

    • Joe Bloggs says:

The White Elephant/Grand Atlantic/Bermudiana Beach has failed for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the attempt by our Government to enter into a commercial market it does not understand.

The investment we have made in the White Elephant/Grand Atlantic/Bermudiana Beach is over $100 MILLION and our Government made a conscious decision not to continue its arrangement with Hilton Hotels, a business that definitely DOES understand the market in which it operates.

Why our Government wants to continue pouring more money into the White Elephant/Grand Atlantic/Bermudiana Beach is a mystery to me, but it does keep the PLP Government in the news (at horrendous costs to us taxpayers).

  4. PSAC MAN says:

How many time do have to hear complaining over and over that our government built while elephant .
come on, “give over ” !
Time has come to prove you wrong as i do not think that it is a good idea fot you in your wisdom to rub salt into the wounds

No body should kick a man when he is down , we help him up.

Was that project is deemed with all vigor to a failure today, we must go back back to 11 or 12 years ago where their were trying to find a way to solve the housing problem at least to give many people work in the construction industry .
Were they mis guided or get the wrong advice back then or was it tainted by experts?

I am sure that i am not the only one who would like to” turn water into wine” here on the project or
” apples into apple pie” .

I personaly think the property best for visitor accomadation for many reasons and we could still sell the property as is, on .
Also the property offers more jobs for our people as we also need foreign income.

We will still need BHC for my next land lord / people project .

Bermuda is a holiday island and alway will be we are two hours away to sun and sand.

if BERMUDA constantly cry failure all the time, no body will give BERMUDA the time of day .

I will ask you what would you think could or would be for the best solution for the property moving forward .

You got three days Mr. Bloogs

    • Joe Bloggs says:

PAC MAN, my point is not simply to “cry failure” but to expose the fact that our Government is using our money to try to compete with private industry and to make a profit. That was the original idea behind the White Elephant/Grand Atlantic/Bermudiana Beach.

It is bad enough that Government takes our money by way of taxes. But to then use our taxpayer money to fund a commercial investment in order to compete against us (taxpayers) is greedy and wrong. No Government should be engaged in commercial ventures. It does not matter whether it is building condominiums that no one wants (ok, one person wanted one of the 90 condominiums) or competing with couriers for package importation business.

If Lt. Col. Burch or King David want to risk their own money on commercial ventures, fine. But I object to them using my money to compete against me.
