[Updated] The Progressive Labour Party [PLP] is holding a press conference this morning [Jan 31] where they are expected to announce additional candidates for the upcoming 2025 General Election. We will have additional coverage later on and in the meantime the live video is below.

Update: The PLP announced their final three candidates: Lauren Hayward Bell in C8, Andre Famous in C12 and Dawn Simmons in C22.

Update 1.30pm: A PLP spokesperson said, “Today, the Progressive Labour Party nominated 36 dynamic candidates who are qualified to serve and committed to their communities. Among those 36 are 13 female candidates, which is a record for any party.

“Our team includes experienced veterans who have deep experience in public service. And, it features the next generation of talent who offer fresh ideas and energy to our team.

“These are difficult times for Bermuda and the world. Now is not the time to take a risk. We have put together a team that combines experience and energy, ideas and wisdom, youth and seasoning. It is the right team for the job.

“We feature a record 13 female candidates because in today’s Bermuda, women are strong, capable and ready to lead towards a fairer Bermuda for all of us. Meanwhile, the One Bermuda Alliance is offering just 6 women and only 2 black women.

“We also feature a number of candidates under 40 – representing the next generation that will lead us into the future. Our next gen candidates include Shomari Talbot-Woolridge, Alexa Lightbourne, Jache Adams, Iesha Musson and Dennis Lister III.

  1. Unimpressed says:

Saved the worst for last. Good luck

  2. A lot of experience in that room says:

Great to see an increase in the number of women.

    • Hmmm says:

Says the PLP spokesperson, funny how the PLP are trying to use where the women are standing in the room to manipulate perception of the party by voters. STOP manipulation. We need a PLP that can deliver, not one that can manipulate. If this PLP had actually done their jobs then they would not need to play these mind games with us.

The fact that so many people independents, FDM, OBA are standing shows you that people in Bermuda are not happy with the PLP because of their inaction and constant lip service of broken promises. I will take their election manifesto and consider it more lip service. Actions are what matters, words are just that…words.

Let’s get them out and have them reform as a party that is genuine for Bermuda. Kick out the snake oil salesmen and investigate their personal wealth creation at your expense. Demand they change to a party that delivers.

  3. A lot of experience in that room says:

Glad to see an increase in the number of women. Best wishes to all.

  4. Hmmm says:

They did this quickly to distract from their inability to answer questions yesterday. I implore you to watch yesterdays videos, carefully listen to the questions and see if they were answered. A response is not an answer, the responses were deflection misdirection and buzzword, phrases that all failed to answer the questions.

The PLP leader said he wouldn’t run in the next election, but there he is.

I don’t care who you vote for, but please this PLP needs to go. The PLP needs to have genuine people working for the betterment of Bermuda. This PLP have failed you again and again. You need to show them that you are in charge as you are the voter, not them.

    • watching says:

Don’t let the truth get in the way of your narrative.

The Leader never said he would not be running. he said he would not be running FOR LEADER again.

His current leadership lasts until October 2026 and he will not be seeking another term as leader. He can remain an MP though if he so desires.

  5. watching says:

A great team that WILL be successful on Feb 18.

Definitely an increase in women candidates. Well done!

    • William says:

A comment clearly written by PLP office, just embarrassing, everyone sees through it.

      You must be desperate ladies.

  6. Unbelievable says:

“You, yes you. You’re running is this constituency.”

“I have no desire to run in an election”

“Come on! You are doing this. Don’t make us look bad.”

    Lol

  7. Mr. Apathy says:

At this rate I think Burt needs to invest…. to stop the constant and needless stream of mistruths pouring out of his mouth.

“Hoping that time would make you forget what he [Fahy] and the OBA put you and your families through during the last time they were in office”.

Who was it that wilfully disrespected our democratic process? Who organised the unlawful blockade of parliament? Who put seniors on the front line whilst they stood behind? Who fraudulently claimed the government called for pepper spray to be used against those who refused ot abide by the law, rather than the police?

Sounds like someone is desperately deflecting and hoping that he can make you forget what he and the PLP have put you and your families through during the last 7 years he and his party have been in office.
