Smash Invitational To Return This Summer
The Bermuda Smash Invitational cricket tournament will return this summer with an increased number of overseas players.
The competition, running from June 1 to 8, will feature 12 visiting players, with three allocated to each team, thanks to the support of new title sponsor, CG Insurance.
Last year’s inaugural competition featured four overseas players, including West Indies international Carlos Brathwaite.
“The inaugural run of the Bermuda Smash Invitational was unquestionably a success for both Bermuda Cricket and Bermuda Sport Tourism,” a spokesperson said.
“The finals match on May 19, 2024, marked the conclusion of an unforgettable tournament, which brought Bermudians and visitors alike out to enjoy a delightful week of cricket.
“2025 will also signify the year the team welcomes on board a brand-new title sponsor for the tournament.
“CG Insurance, a company lauded for their unyielding support for cricket throughout the Caribbean, especially with Cricket West Indies, will now extend their support of the beloved sport to us here in Bermuda.
“It is a heartfelt pleasure to welcome them on board, and to work with them for the continued success of this burgeoning competition.”
Naz Farrow, CG’s chief executive, said the event is a natural fit for CG and will build on its existing partnership with Cricket West Indies and continued commitment to fostering the growth and development of cricket in Bermuda.
“We are honoured to play a role in supporting this exciting tournament, which not only celebrates the love of cricket—Bermuda’s national sport – but also provides an incredible platform for players, both local and international, to grow, develop, and thrive,” Mr Farrow said.
“Together with the organisers, we look forward to making the Bermuda Smash Invitational 2025 an unforgettable experience that uplifts the sport and the community alike.”
A BCB spokesperson added: “Although, new sponsors are always welcome, the team wants to continue to thank Minister Owen K Darrell, JP and the Government of Bermuda for generously stepping up in 2024, and for their continued support in 2025.
“Undoubtedly, their support made all of this possible. There would be no competition without them.
“As we all look to the future, Bermudians and cricket lovers can know that everyone involved is working hard to ensure that Bermuda Smash Invitational 2025, will be another unmatched addition to Bermuda’s already phenomenal yearly calendar of activities.
“Another step towards growing this tournament will take place directly on the cricket pitch.
“After the successful integration of international players to our local teams in 2024, organisers are building upon those relationships and are ready to elevate the tournament further.
“In 2025, with the help of CG Insurance, there will be twelve international players, which means three international players on each team.
“The experience brought by these players in 2024 added to the matches, as well as aided in increasing the skill set of our younger players and all who shared the field with them.
“This year, the goal will be to facilitate even more growth and development across the board. A goal which everyone who loves Bermudian cricket will surely encourage.
“2024’s Bermuda Smash Invitational comprised eight matches, four glorious days of cricket, as well as facilitated the sharpening of young Bermudian cricketers’ skills, as they took in a cricket drills showcase. This all culminated in an exuberant win for the Hamilton Parish Hurricanes.
“Bermuda Smash International once again congratulates captain, Terryn Fray, coach Clay Smith, and their international player Carlos Brathwaite on a job well done.
“With this year’s tournament almost here, fans have only a short time before finding out if they will repeat the feat.”
Sponsorship spots and hospitality areas are still available.
