Wilton Re Bermuda Expands Support For BEN
Wilton Reinsurance Bermuda Limited has expanded its support for the Bermuda Education Network [BEN] in a partnership initiative that includes volunteering and fiscal support.
A spokesperson said, “Wilton Re employees recently participated in a new joint initiative with the BEN and the Agra Living Institute for the building of a school garden at Paget Primary School. The project brings hands-on gardening experience to students to facilitate the learning of the many facets and benefits of gardening, sustainability, nature, food origins and healthy living.”

Sylvia Oliveira, CEO of Wilton Re Bermuda said, “Wilton Re is honored to partner with BEN to support their vital work. Our team enjoyed working together to build a garden for Paget Primary students, and I was delighted to read to the BEN Book Club as Mrs. Claus in December. Wilton Re remains committed to investing in Bermuda’s children.”
The spokesperson said, “Additionally, Wilton Re this year increased its annual funding to BEN to $8,000 which will be used to support their many programmes and initiatives grounded in enhancing resources and services to primary school students including experiential learning opportunities and supporting teacher development.”

Brendan Kemp, CFO of Wilton Re Bermuda said, “We are honoured to be able to increase our commitment to BEN and the Bermuda community this year by substantively being involved in the Paget Primary school garden. BEN is an important ally for Bermuda public primary schools and Wilton Re is pleased to support their work.”
BEN’s founder, Becky Ausenda said, “We deeply appreciate this generous contribution to BEN’s Horizons programs, which has a profound impact on children in Bermuda’s public elementary schools. Every field trip lesson we provide is entirely funded by donations, and we couldn’t do it without the unwavering support of companies like Wilton Re who believe in the power of education to transform lives. Their support for BEN was further demonstrated by their willingness to help us turn an unused outdoor space at Paget Primary into a vibrant garden. Wilton Re team members worked alongside our partners Agra Living Institute and other volunteers with incredible dedication, and the results were remarkable. It takes a village to raise a child, and we are grateful for partners who are willing to roll up their sleeves and do the heavy lifting.”

The spokesperson said, “The BEN seeks to build a professional learning community that increases the services and opportunities for public school students to address the achievement gap between public and private school systems. While focusing on educators within the system and deepening connections throughout the teaching community, the BEN creates opportunities for teachers to develop their leadership skills and expanding their repertoire for curriculum enhancement and confidence.”
