Fake ‘Bermuda National Coin’ Scam On X
[Updated] An account on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, is promoting a fake scam which alleges that the ‘Bermuda National Coin’ will be launched today.
The account is purporting to belong to Premier David Burt, and has grey check mark — which normally indicates it is an official government account — and the account was only registered this month, and the prior content on the account is not in English.
Premier Burt — from his real X account — posted, “This is a fake account and a scam. @elonmusk & @X not sure how they get a Grey Verification badge, but people will get scammed due to the lack of controls on this app. Please fix!”
As of this writing, the account is continuing to promote the scam. If you have an X account, please feel free to report the post, as hopefully the more people that report it, the quicker the social media company will act to remove the scam.
Update: The scam posts, and all posts in general, have been removed from the account.
