Muay Thai fighter Jarryd Simmons produced a battling display in his points defeat to Shadadi Mbugujie on the Bloodline fight card in Ontario, Canada, on Saturday [February 22].

Simmons lost the three-round amateur 139-lb contest – two weights above his natural division – by a majority decision, with the judges scoring the fight 28-28, 27-29 and 27-29.

It was the first defeat of his Simmons’ career, having won his previous four bouts.

The 25-year-old has spent the past two and a half years refining his skills at Fight City Muay Thai and Fitness on Pitts Bay Road under head coach Chuck Morgan, who was fulsome in his praise for Simmons.

“I’m very proud of Jarryd,” Morgan told Bernews. “He took on a more experienced and heavier fighter in his hometown.

“Shadadi [of the MAS Academy of Martial Arts] and his team were awesome sportsmen. This was a great experience in Jarryd’s young career.”
