Five New Members Join Human Rights Tribunal
The Selection and Appointment Committee [SAC] for Human Rights today announced the newly recruited members for the Human Rights Tribunal panel.
A spokesperson said, “The Selection and Appointment Committee [SAC] for Human Rights, established in accordance with Section 13A of the Human Rights Act 1981, as amended [Act], today announced the newly recruited members for the Human Rights Tribunal panel.
“The Human Rights Tribunal is a pillar of the human rights framework in Bermuda and has statutory authority to adjudicate human rights complaints. The Human Rights Tribunal panel consists of 12 to 15 people, including the Chair and Deputy Chair.”
The Head of the SAC, Seth Darrell stated, “Following an exacting evaluation process to ensure discerning legal minds and principled custodians assume responsibility, I am pleased to announce the appointment of new panel members Amy Murray, Kate Fenwick, Kelly Hunt, Sarita Ebbin and Samira Saya, each for a two-year term.
“The newly appointed members will join the current panel, which includes Christina Herrero [Chair], Stephen White [Deputy Chair], Fiona Bada, Elaine Butterfield, Christopher Cunningham, Dawn Eversley, Sita Ingram, LeVince Roberts, Casey Schuler and Claire van Overdijk.
“In an epoch marked by complex socio-legal challenges and the ever-evolving interplay of rights and obligations, the Human Rights Tribunal demands adjudicators of unimpeachable integrity. Each appointee possesses a demonstrable record of excellence, a keen jurisprudential insight and an unrelenting dedication to ensuring the application of the law. Their stewardship will indubitably fortify the Tribunal’s mandate to uphold the fundamental tenets of justice, ensuring that each case before it is adjudicated with the highest degree of impartiality and perspicacity.”
