Bailey Bridge Upgrade Underway On Causeway
The Ministry of Public Works and Environment said they have “commenced essential upgrade work on the Bailey Bridge portion of the Causeway in St. George’s.”
A Government spokesperson said, “Crews began work this past Saturday and continued through Sunday, with progress already at the halfway mark. The Ministry’s teams are replacing the bridge’s deck panels to enhance safety and improve the structure’s overall durability.
“The eastbound lane has already been completed, and work is now focused on the westbound lane. Full completion of the current phase is expected within the coming week, weather permitting.
“The newly installed panels are designed to last approximately 10 to 15 years and include the same anti-skid surface coating as the previous ones, ensuring traction for vehicles in wet weather conditions.
“The Bailey Bridge has experienced natural wear over time, and these works are being carried out to ensure continued safety, reliability, and peace of mind for all who use the Causeway.”
Minister of Public Works and Environment Jache Adams underscored the significance of the project, stating, “This is a key infrastructure improvement that speaks to our commitment to public safety and long-term planning.”
“The Bailey Bridge is a vital link for the east end, and ensuring its structural integrity is a top priority for the Government.”
Minister Adams continued, “We understand how important this route is for daily commuters and emergency services. Our teams have worked efficiently to complete the eastbound lane, and we appreciate the public’s patience as we move ahead with the westbound side.”
A Government spokesperson added, “The Ministry also plans to replace the bridge’s steel member components, which provide key structural support. This future work will not require any lane closures.”
Minister Adams added, “We are not just addressing immediate needs— the public will see that we are making smart, forward-thinking upgrades that will serve the public well into the future.”

Good job guys.
Proud of you !
Keep going
Bob
Wasn’t this supopossed to be a temporary bridge after the hurricane? 20+ years later it is being replaced with parts made to last another 15 years.
“The newly installed panels are designed to last approximately 10 to 15 years”
A Bailey Bridge is by its very nature a temporary structure. This one has already been in place for more than 15 years, since 2008.
When will we hear the announcement that the Longbird Bridge is being replaced?
So no promise of a permanent replacement bridge, just band aids? BTA will probably start showcasing this as a visitor attraction – “the oldest temporary bridge in Bermuda”. A fine showpiece of PLP infrastructure incompetence to greet any visitors.
Complain that your OBA didn’t fix it during their time in office. They could have put that in the airport contract.
There was no money when the OBA got into office. The PLP had wasted it all. There wasn’t enough to pay the civil service payroll.
People came first, projects that could generate money for the country and benefit for the country in terms of jobs, opportunities, and world exposure.
The OBA when they came in did an amazing job, the PLP manipulation machine made people think otherwise. Were you fooled by the PLP?
“We had to deceive you to win the election”
Looks good for temporary.
Burt has been making grand announcements of the replacement of both Longbird and Swing Bridge seven years. Before him DrEB did the same. NOTHING.
Nothing but pretty artist impressions of what the bridges will look like.
You can’t drive on art.
Nice i guess another 500 years it will be done again, if this place dont sink before than !! Lol
Just save your selves time trouble effort and expense for a little used water way and fill the space in and call it a day .
we may want but you do no need to any more to add to the budget.
You can forget the speed a load limitations.
We coul sell the thing to Cuban national party.
In 15 years a new cousin Bailey will cost you a bundle ,
We will be still stuck with the same old problem.
Have you any idea what the pain of hardship is
” Mummy will the bombs fall to night my wife has never forgot that ”
” No my darling ,now go back to sleep”
Then several doors down in Old Trafford Industrial Park . A house got blown to bits .
When hardship arrives you will not have money for shoes . Realy !
