Edgewood Pediatric Expands To New Location
Edgewood Pediatric Services announced its expansion to a new location at the Vallis Building in Hamilton and the introduction of “new services and community programs.”
A spokesperson said, “Edgewood Pediatric Services, Bermuda’s trusted leader in pediatric and adolescent healthcare, is proud to announce its expansion to a new location at the Vallis Building, 58 Par-La-Ville Road, in Hamilton. Along with the move, Edgewood is introducing new services and community programs designed to support families at every stage of their child’s development.”
“At Edgewood, we are committed to providing expert, trusted care in a family-centered environment,” said Dr. Kristen Woodward. “Our new location allows us to enhance our services and provide more support to help children thrive.”
The spokesperson said, “Edgewood Pediatric Services provides comprehensive medical care for infants, children and adolescents, ensuring families have access to expert, compassionate support at every stage of their child’s development. From well-child visits that monitor growth and development to same-day sick visits, Edgewood prioritizes preventive care and urgent medical needs.
“The practice also offers routine immunizations, neonatal and high-risk infant care, lactation education and support from a Certified Lactation Counselor to assist breastfeeding mothers. Additional services include circumcision, pediatric-friendly ear piercing and registered nurse support for medical advice and triage.
“For children requiring specialized care, Edgewood provides coordination with local and overseas specialists, including referrals for occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, psychology, imaging and learning support. Recognizing that health concerns do not always arise during office hours, Edgewood also offers after-hours urgent advice, with Dr. Kenny or Dr. Woodward available by phone to assist families when they need it most.”
Joining the practice is Heather O’Connell, a highly experienced neonatal and pediatric nurse. “With over 30 years of experience in pediatric care, Nurse Heather brings an invaluable level of expertise and compassion to our practice,” said Dr. Stephen Kenny.
A Breastfeeding-Friendly Space for Families
The spokesperson said, “Understanding the importance of breastfeeding support, Edgewood is now an officially breastfeeding-friendly space. As part of the Government of Bermuda’s Breastfeeding Friendly Designation Campaign, Edgewood is committed to creating a more inclusive, supportive community for breastfeeding families across Bermuda. Mothers in need of a comfortable place to nurse while in town are welcome to use the clinic’s private space or waiting room.”
“Breastfeeding provides unparalleled health benefits for both infants and mothers, and we want to create a welcoming, supportive environment for breastfeeding families,” said Dr. Woodward. “Whether a mother is seeking guidance or just needs a quiet place to feed her baby, we’re here to help. By supporting this initiative, we hope to encourage other businesses to provide spaces that make breastfeeding easier and more accessible for families.”
Free Prenatal Classes for Parents-To-Be
The spokesperson said, “Edgewood will be offering free prenatal classes for expectant parents on an ongoing basis, with the first session taking place on Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. This one-hour course will provide expecting parents with essential knowledge, including:
- What you need to safely take a baby home from the hospital
- Breastfeeding basics and necessary supplies
- What to expect in the hospital
- Guidance on the first pediatric visits after leaving the hospital
“This session is designed to give new parents confidence as they prepare to welcome their baby. Spaces are limited, and registration is encouraged.
Edgewood Reads: Fostering a Love for Books from Birth
“Edgewood is proud to launch Edgewood Reads, an initiative that integrates books into well-child visits and promotes early literacy. Through this program, children receive an age-appropriate book at each developmental checkup from six months to five years of age, and parents receive guidance and resources on fostering a reading habit at home.”
“As pediatricians, we see families regularly throughout a child’s early years, and this gives us a unique opportunity to encourage reading from the start,” said Dr. Kenny. “By giving parents a book during each checkup, we hope to help families create moments of connection that foster lifelong learning.”
The spokesperson said, “Edgewood Reads is inspired by the U.S.-based Reach Out and Read program, which integrates literacy into pediatric care by providing books and guidance to families during well-child visits. This evidence-based initiative encourages parents to read aloud and engage in literacy-rich interactions with their children, fostering early brain development and language skills.
“Studies show that reading together strengthens parent-child bonding and lays a critical foundation for school readiness by improving vocabulary, comprehension, and attention skills. Through Edgewood Reads, we aim to support families in building these essential habits and ensuring that every child has access to the lifelong benefits of reading together. Edgewood Reads also includes a partnership with the Bermuda Youth Library to support families in establishing early literacy habits. As part of this collaboration, Edgewood encourages families to visit the library and participate in their 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge, which promotes family bonding by encouraging caregivers to read together daily.
