BHB: ‘Successful In Our Recruitment Process’

“We will be normalising our services for all new and current cancer patients through this month,” the Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB] said, explaining that they have been “successful in our recruitment process.”

Last month BHB confirmed that a “number of chemotherapy treatments have been delayed” as two chemotherapy nurses were “unable to work for unrelated and personal reasons.”

Bernews asked for an update on the situation, and a BHB spokesperson said, “We have very good news regarding our chemotherapy nurse coverage. We have been successful in our recruitment process for the permanent positions to be filled.

“Our appreciation goes to the oncology team, which includes our dedicated nursing staff, for ensuring many treatments could continue. We also thank our patients for their understanding through a challenging time and our community partners for their support.

“We will be normalising our services for all new and current cancer patients through this month.”

From a financial point of view, I’m sure this comes as a huge relief for those patients who had to travel overseas for treatment. For those who only have Futurecare which covers 75% and HIP which covers 50% the co-pay is tremendous coupled with airfare, transportation and food costs which those insurances do not cover.
