Day 1 Recap: Debuts & Silver For Bermuda
Bermuda kicked off the track and field portion of the 2025 Carifta Games with standout debuts and a silver medal finish.
A BNAA spokesperson said, “Team Bermuda opened the 2025 Carifta Games in Trinidad with a day full of heart, hustle, and breakthrough moments — showing the region that our athletes came to compete.
“The day began with Amaris Munya, the first Bermudian to touch the red track. She ran a strong 59.84 in the U20 400m, finishing 10th overall and setting the tone for what was to come.
“In the same event, Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert made his international debut, delivering a composed and powerful run of 49.76 to place 12th overall. It was a clear statement that he belongs among the best in the region.
“David Morris, still early in his season, was unfortunately disqualified for a lane violation — a result determined using AI and drone-assisted officiating, a new and highly precise feature of this year’s Games. While the outcome was disappointing, David’s potential remains unquestioned.
“Then the 100m heats lit up the track.
“Amara Samuels, competing in her first-ever Carifta Games, blazed through her U17 100m heat with a personal best time of 12.31 — an electrifying debut that showed she’s a star in the making.
“Lashee Jones followed with a solid 12.61, finishing 3rd in her heat, once again proving her consistency and competitive edge on this stage.
“In the U20 boys’ 100m, Kyah Richardson, stepping in as a last-minute replacement for Denver Tucker, clocked 11.48 to finish 27th — a testament to his readiness to step up when the team called.
“Meanwhile, Noree Robinson just missed a spot in the final, finishing 10th overall with a fast 10.69 in a stacked field — a performance full of promise.
“The evening session was a showcase of perseverance and pride.
“In the U17 girls’ 1500m, Riana Robinson took a hard fall in the opening 100 meters — but what happened next defined the Bermudian spirit. Riana got back up, fought through the field, and crossed the line in 5:18.81, placing 10th. That kind of heart can’t be taught.
“In the U20 boys’ 1500m, Jake Smith ran with grit and purpose, notching a new personal best of 4:07.99 and finishing 6th overall — a big step forward and a sign of what’s to come.
“And then, the night’s headline performance: Cameron Adkins, who faced illness in his last two Carifta outings, stepped onto the track with focus and fire. Running a brilliant race in the U17 1500m, Cam surged to a silver medal in 4:12.89 — claiming Bermuda’s first medal of the 2025 Games. A shining moment for a determined athlete whose time had truly come.”
