SailGP Announce Bermuda Event In 2026
SailGP has released information about their 2026 Season, with the organization announcing that an event will be held in Bermuda in May 2026.
A spokesperson said, “SailGP has released a first look at its upcoming 2026 Season, including the return of fan-favorite locations, with multi-year hosting agreements secured across all regions.
“In 2026, the Rolex SailGP Championship will set sail in Perth, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, Bermuda, New York, Halifax, Portsmouth, Saint-Tropez and Dubai, followed by the winner-takes-all Grand Final in Abu Dhabi.
“The full calendar – including remaining host cities and dates – will be confirmed in due course. The first named 2026 venues will see the championship racing across five global continents – from Australia to Abu Dhabi – building on the success of previous seasons with confirmation of well-established venues, offering thrilling competition and unforgettable fan experiences at every stop.”
SailGP CEO Sir Russell Coutts, said: “We’ve had unprecedented interest from cities around the world, and SailGP is excited to release a first preview of what fans can expect from the 2026 Season. That includes world-class racing in some of the most iconic stadium destinations we’ve visited to date, and extending our presence in Australia with a first-time event in Perth.”
The spokesperson said, “The 2026 Season will continue a shift toward the consistent, regionalized format SailGP has built over preceding years. Beginning in January and unfolding over an 11-month period, the season will start in Australia in January 2026, before an action-packed tour of North and South America that will include SailGP’s third visit to New York, the return to Halifax, and a highly-anticipated stopover in Rio de Janeiro. From there, racing fans are in for another unforgettable European summer – with returns to Portsmouth and Saint-Tropez confirmed – before the Rolex SailGP Championship comes to its dramatic close with back-to-back events in the UAE in November.”
Coutts said: “Return venues are a pivotal aspect of SailGP’s ongoing global expansion, as we strengthen our connection to new and emerging audiences. Destinations like New York and Saint-Tropez have become cornerstone events of the SailGP calendar, with their stunning backdrops, rich sporting histories, and enthusiastic fanbases.”
“Long-term hosting agreements allow SailGP to build an enduring legacy in the cities we visit, and become tentpole events on the local sporting calendar – serving as crucial touchpoints for fans and sponsors alike.”
The spokesperson said, “This 2025 Season, SailGP welcomed a record fleet of 12 national teams, including two new additions to the start line: the Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team and Red Bull Italy SailGP Team.
“The championship has confirmed plans to add two new expansion teams to its roster in 2026. Growing audiences and consistent sporting action has ensured the championship works with some of the most reputable brands in sport and entertainment, welcoming Emirates, DP World and Accor to its roster of global partners in the 2025 Season, alongside global partners Mubadala and Oracle, and an expanded Title Partnership with Rolex.

I’m torn between being happy that viewers across the world will get to see the beautiful waters of the Great Sound and worry that our Government will try to sabotage this America’s Cup Light event.
Naah , when it happens under ‘their’ watch it’s the greatest thing around !
Why on earth would the government sabotage this event? Careful, your crazy is showing.
“Why on earth would the government sabotage this event?”
Because SailGP is training ground for the America’s Cup (hence “America’s Cup Light”) and the disdain of the PLP Government for the American’s Cup in Bermuda is well documented.
That was because of the OBA’s rush to bankrupt our department of education and make people take furlough days to make money for the businesses owned by the OBA members. Surely they won’t sabotage it while they are in power. They may learn a thing or two from the OBA. I’m sure DeSilva has plans already.
Funny , it seems that no matter whether the DoE is bankrupt (something that’s never happened btw) or flush with cash they’re still failing the children . So in case you haven’t noticed yet money isn’t the problem.
And oh yeah , we can all imagine what De Silva’s plans involve .. lol
“OBA’s rush to … make people take furlough days”
The OBA did not “make” anyone take furlough days. The unions involved agreed that furlough days were better than the alternative.
Your comment ignores the fact that when the OBA came to power there was no financial plan for making payment on our debt. We had to borrow money to pay interest on our debt and to pay the civil servants you say were made to take furlough days.
No you just hate anything to do with a black government.
“No you just hate anything to do with a black government.”
I really wish you would use your own name when accusing someone of being a racist.
What a cynical and unnecessary comment!
Welcome SailGP!!! Shine on Bermuda!!!
Great news, but no mention of how much this is going to cost. No details of the deal were released. How much will BTA kick in for sponsorship? Where are the estimates from the “experts” on how much revenue (not “economic impact”) this event is projected to make?
“The sailing extravaganza will head back to the island in May next year for the first time since 2024, when the Bermuda Sail Grand Prix garnered an economic impact of $4.9 million, drew more than 4,000 spectators and a global broadcast audience of 13.5 million viewers.” – RG
Subtract out the “economic impact” associated with the alleged 13.5 million viewers, and what is the bottom line in hard money that stayed in Bermuda?
Why remove the reference to “economic impact”? Economics is not just about money, it is about the allocation of resources. In Bermuda that allocation of resources necessarily includes advertising benefit conferred on various restaurants and hotels (and others).
