Armed with an extensive music catalogue containing, the likes of ‘Bermuda [Havanna Riddim] featuring Big Chill’, ‘When I Had Nothing’ and ‘Ride featuring Scandalous’, Jesse Seymour is an artist of reckoning.

Also possessing a silky, smooth tenor voice, ravishing good looks and a stage presence that causes hearts to flutter, Seymour has enjoyed a steady rise in popularity ever since he won the 2016 edition of Bermuda Idol.

This month — May 31 — the vocalist is set to perform as an opening act during the much anticipated ‘Catch A Fire’ concert at the National Sports Centre, North Field, which will feature prominent reggae artist Busy Signal.

“It’s definitely an accolade I’d like to have under my belt,” said Seymour, who performs regularly as the lead of Silver City band. “I’ve opened up for many artists like Chronix, Buju [Banton], Jah Cure, Tarrus Riley, so this is another event, another opportunity for me to show myself.

“And I don’t do this for the money, because I actually make more money singing at weddings than I do performing at an international show.

“But at the international shows, I get to perform more of my material in the style I prefer. I’m able to express myself in my own way, so performing at reggae shows excites me.

“When I am singing for work, the audiences are not the same type of people that are likely to listen to my brand of music.”

Seymour understands that music can often act as medicine for the soul, and with Bermuda in a state of mourning over lives lost, he has a special offering to be presented at the event.

“I have something special in store for that in my segment,” he said. “It’s going to be a surprise for people, but I think that they are going to love it.

“During my performances, I always make it a point to highlight those we have lost, because everybody has lost somebody, and me being in a situation where I lost both of my parents five months apart, I understand how it feels to lose people that are close to you.

“So I just want to bring the vibes in a space where Bermuda is kind of down at the moment, and I want to be the guy who steps in and shifts the tone.”

Aside from having an extensive catalogue of previously released material, Seymour recently recorded two more singles during a junket to Jamaica.

Said Seymour: “I went to Jamaica for the whole month of January, essentially to catch a vibe and ended up recording two songs at Tuff Gong Studio in Kingston, where I worked with Rollie, who is one of the biggest producers in Kingston and Rastarella.

“It was a humbling experience for me, because I wasn’t supposed to record with Rollie, but he was already at the studio, and when he heard me singing, he decided to stay and check out what I was doing.

“It was amazing because we ended up being at the studio for about six hours.

“For one of these songs, ‘Hard Life’, Rollie said to me, ‘Bro, this song right here is real catchy and is really good.’

“I haven’t officially released the song yet, but I do have it playing in rotation on the radio.”

Seymour believes himself to be on the cusp of greater international success; however, with a family to support, his ‘Restore Pro’ painting business to further develop and a house to maintain, he is not prepared to abandon all for an uncertain future in music.

“I believe I’m only verge of even bigger things,” said Seymour. “I think that continuing to build up the catalogue will help greatly, because once you build up the catalogue and people start to hear more and more about you, you gain traction.

“And when people start to realise that you have music and have a large catalogue that’s how you blow up.

“They see that you don’t have just one or two songs, but a whole catalogue of music.

“I try to be versatile in that I cover all sorts of music genres from R & B to gospel, hip hop to reggae. I’ve done all sorts of songs, and I’m not just a one genre artist, which is something not everyone is capable of.

“I don’t really compare myself to any other artists, but if I had to make a comparison, I would say I’m a male version of Rihanna.”

Catch A Fire takes place May 31, 2025 at NSC North Field. Advance tickets are priced at $85 — $100 at the gate — and can be purchased via PTIX www.ptix.bm.
