Undefeated boxer Andre Lambe is set for his biggest challenge yet when he faces American Kendo Castaneda for the vacant American Boxing Organisation [ABO] regional eight-round welterweight title in Galveston, Texas, on June 14.

For the first time in his professional career, Lambe [12-0] will step up to eight rounds when he meets Castaneda [21-9] at the Galveston Island Convention Centre.

Lambe, who has vacated his six-round version of the ABO belt, acknowledged that Castaneda, 31, represents the toughest test of his career.

The American, ranked 87th in his division in the United States, most recently lost by technical knockout to Olympian Delante Johnson in Las Vegas in March.

“He’s a very active fighter,” Lambe told Bernews. “He’s not a journeyman – he’s coming to win this belt.

“Most guys who’ve gone this route and won this belt have gone on to become world champions.”

The 29-year-old is no stranger to fighting on the road. He previously claimed victories overseas against Dominique Williams in Orlando in 2021 and Bryan Springs in Cleveland in 2023 – experiences he says fuel his hunger and intensity.

“Fighting overseas brings out a different side of me,” Lambe said. “It motivates me. I love fighting in Bermuda, but being away gives me a chance to prove myself on a bigger stage. It puts new eyes on me – and that can open doors.”

Lambe has been preparing at the Fresh & Hungry Boxing Gym in Warwick, sparring with fellow Bermudian Adrian Roach and building his conditioning to handle the extra rounds. He believes he is in peak form.

“My conditioning is great—I’ve been sparring ten rounds regularly,” he said.

“I started training camp while Nikki [Bascome] was preparing for his fight in Atlantic City. I’m excited to have more time in the ring to do my work. This is the best shape I’ve ever been in.”

For Lambe’s trainer, Varo Pelon Andrade, the trip to Galveston carries added significance.

“It’s going to be big for Pelon,” Lambe said. “It’s his hometown. It wasn’t planned; it just worked out that way.”
