Aeziah Divine On Silverstone Performance
Motorcycle racer Aeziah Divine has reflected on his “encouraging” performance during round two of the R&G British Talent Cup at Silverstone in Northampton, England, at the weekend.
The Bermudian teenager, who competes in the Moto3 class, delivered his best showing to date in the series, finishing sixteenth in race one on Saturday.
He also achieved a personal milestone in qualifying, securing seventeenth on the grid.
Racing for British outfit Fibre Tec Honda – MLav Racing, Divine was again in sixteenth place during Sunday’s second race before he was forced to retire.
Divine made his debut last year, competing in five of the eight Moto3 rounds.
“I made up a few positions in the opening laps of race one from P17 on the grid, my best qualifying position so far in the class,” Divine wrote on social media.
“My confidence was building as the race went on with some good battles and close but clean racing.
“In the last lap, I passed two riders going into Maggots and Becketts to cross the line in P16, my best race result and getting closer to the points.”
The second race marked Divine’s first experience racing in wet conditions in the BTC.
“We found a great wet setup at Donington, so I felt confident going into these conditions,” he said.
“I had a good start from P22, making up a few positions and sticking with the second group. After reaching P16, the rider I was following closely slid off in front of me at the last corner, leaving me nowhere to go and forcing me into the gravel.
“I fought to keep the bike upright to continue the race but this cost me a lot of time and allowed the group behind to get past while I was in the gravel.
“I was pushing hard to regain a good position but lost the front on the entry to Maggots and Becketts, dropping out of the race from P16.
“An unlucky end to the weekend but lots of positives to take away. It was an incredible experience being back racing alongside MotoGP at Silverstone.
“I can’t wait to build off this momentum over the next few weeks before Snetterton.
“I want to say a massive thanks to the team, Fibre Tec Honda – Mlav Racing – for all of the support this weekend and inviting us into the MLav Racing Moto3 pit box. It was eye opening and amazing being there.”
Divine will return to action when the third round of the BTC resumes at Snetterton in Norwich on June 22.
