Middle Track & Field Championships Results

Some of the island’s top young athletes were in action at the Middle School Track and Field Championships.

A spokesperson said, “Saltus Grammar School cruised in winning the 2025 Middle School Track and Field Championships held at the National Sports Centre. The Knights accumulated 607.5 points on their way to defending their title. The Whitney Institute finished second on 516 while Sandys Secondary Middle School finished in third with 414 points. Saltus edged Bermuda High School in winning the girl’s overall division while Whitney comfortably won the boys division with Saltus claiming second place.

“Ava St. Luce was crowned the under 12 girls champion with 28 points. The Saltus student won the 100 meters and long jump while finishing second in the 200 meters to Cush Belboda from Purvis Primary. Saltus Grammar’s Ajani Trott broke the 400-meter record on his way to winning the under 12 boys title. Trott broke the record in a time of 1:10.60. He also finished second in the 100 and 200 meters behind schoolmate Jadon Lightbourne. Naomi MacGuinness followed up her 800-meter record breaking performance last week by shattering the 1500-meter record with a time of 5:02.32. She broke Flora Duffy’s record by 11 seconds.

“Sukanya Jobson continued the Saltus streak in being named the Under 13 girls champion with gold medal performances in the 400-, 800- and 1500-meter races. Teammate Leydi Raynor ensured Saltus swept all under 13 girls’ events on the track by winning the 100- and 200-meter races. Jobson and Raynor teamed with Zahra Goodchild and Amaya Davis to break the under 13 girls 4×100 meter relay record with a time of 52.73 seconds. Adaj O’Brien was impressive in winning the under 13 boy’s title. The Whitney Institute student was victorious in the 100 and 200 meters along with the shot-put event. Teammate Hasim Ming won double gold in the 400 and 800 meters.

“Recent CARIFTA games participant Amaya Samuels blazed her way to win the over 13 girl’s title. The BHS student cruised to wins in the 100 and 200 meters while also winning the shot put. Whitney’s Tmothy Pearman Was unstoppable on the track with wins in the 400-, 800- and 1500-meter races. Second in the division was Saltus jumper Chaz Edmead who wo the triple and high jump but only managed third in the long jump. Sandys Secondary Riley Martin won the sprint 100- and 200-meter double.”
