MP Robert King Hosts Seniors’ Lunch Event
OBA MP Robert King recently hosted his second monthly Lunch & Tea for Seniors, a growing initiative designed to connect and empower Bermuda’s senior citizens.
An OBA spokesperson said, “Shadow Minister of National Security, the Cabinet Office, and Digital Innovation, and MP for Smith’s North, Robert King, recently hosted his second monthly Lunch & Tea for Seniors, a growing community initiative aimed at connecting and empowering Bermuda’s senior citizens.
“This month’s event saw attendance triple from its inaugural gathering, with seniors from across the island coming together not only for a meal, but also for meaningful discussion, shared learning, and a renewed sense of community.”
“With seniors expected to make up 25% of Bermuda’s population by 2026, it’s critical we listen to their concerns, share resources, and strengthen their support networks,” said Mr. King. “I’m thrilled by the turnout and the enthusiasm. It truly feels like we’re building a movement of seniors who are informed, connected, and ready to help shape a better Bermuda.”
The spokesperson said, “ The Lunch & Tea for Seniors is open to all island residents, not just constituents of Smith’s North, and is held on the last Tuesday of every month. The next event will be held on May 27. The location will be announced in the near future.
“Key concerns raised during April’s gathering included:
- Green Land Dairy Farm
- The rising cost of healthcare
- A perceived decline in public courtesy, including driving behaviour and noise
- The need for stronger enforcement of existing laws
“Attendees expressed gratitude for the space to voice their thoughts and concerns and emphasised how empowering it felt to be part of a united effort to help change the island for the better.
“Future sessions will include topics such as cybersecurity safety tips and healthy aging practices, along with continued open discussion and community-building.
