Primary Track & Field Championships Results

Some of the island’s top young athletes were in action at the Primary School Track and Field Championships.

A spokesperson said, “Harrington Sound Primary successfully defended the title of Primary School Champions after Harrington Sound finished on top with 248 points. Saltus Grammar School finished second with 215 points while Warwick Academy claimed the third position with 190.50 points. Harrington Sound won the championships thanks to an impressive point tally accumulated by their girls. Their girls easily won the girls division with 175 points. BHS finished a distant second with 109 points while Saltus finished third with 83 points. Saltus won the overall boys title by the slimmest of margins with a one point advantage over Warwick Academy. Saltus finished one point ahead of Warwick with 132 points while Port Royal finished third with 95.50 points

“Gisele Reid-Rubaine was unstoppable on her way to winning the under 9 champion girl title. Reid Rubaine won the sprinting trifecta 100-, 200- and 400-meter events while leading her team to 4100-meter relay success. Diamond Morris finished second with 22 points. The Saltus student won the 800 meters and finished second in the 400 and fourth in the 200 meters. Dalton E. Tucker’s Nico Simmons also won all three sprints to win the under 9 boy’s title. Harrington Sound’s Theodore Smith was second with second place finishes in the 100 and 200 meters along with a third in the 400 meters.

“The under 10 girls title was shared by Kamari Brooks-Gibbons from Warwick Academy and Caeli-Grace Dixon from the Bermuda institute. Brooks-Gibbons had victories in the 800 meters and the long jump and finished fifth in the 400 meters. Dixon earned her points with a hattrick of second place finishes in the 400 and 800 meters and the long jump. Shammaah Darko was electric on the track winning the 100-, 200- and 400-meter races all in convincing fashion.

“Harrington Sound’s Aalirah Daniels was equally as impressive in winning the over 10 girls title with her three wins in the 100, 200 meter and long jump events. Her relay team was also victorious giving her a four-gold medal haul. Second place was Yara Muhammad who won the 800 meters while finishing second in the 200 and 400 meters. Dalton E Tucker topped the podium again with Shanzae Smith winning the over 10 boy’s title. Smith collected gold medals in the 200 and 400 meters while finished second in the 100 meters.

“Reid-Rubaine and Daniels shared the Toby Colombe award for excellence after both collected an impressive four gold medals each.”
