St. George’s Has Released Its May Newsletter
The Corporation of St. George’s has released its May newsletter, spotlighting Heritage Month events, community news, and local milestones under the theme “The Future is Now.”
A spokesperson said, “The Corporation of St. George’s is pleased to announce the release of the May 2025 edition of the town newsletter. This month’s issue offers a rich blend of community updates, event information, and thoughtful features that reflect Bermuda’s Heritage Month theme: “The Future is Now.”
“Among the key updates, residents should take note that the next General Meeting of the Corporation will be held on Thursday, May 29 at 6 PM in the Towne Hall. This meeting falls on the fifth Thursday of the month, rather than the usual fourth, and will include reports from the Town Manager, board members, and committees, as well as a public Q&A session. It’s an opportunity for residents to hear directly about ongoing initiatives, proposed programs, and town developments.
“In a special message, the Town Manager highlights May as the unofficial start of summer in Bermuda, marked by the Bermuda Day Race and Parade, themed this year, “The Future is Now.” Residents and visitors are invited to enjoy the town’s activities and explore its historic sites. The Corporation proudly supported the Women’s Resource Centre’s HerStory event, held alongside the reopening of Long Story Short and Frequency Café on Water Street West. It also welcomes new businesses: The English Market, Gardine’s Flower Shop, and Moongate Brewery.
“May will also see two major national events launch from within St. George’s. The 38th Annual Convex End-to-End begins at King’s Square on Saturday, May 3 at 7:00 AM, and the Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby will start from the foot of Barrack Hill on Friday, May 23 at 8:30 AM. Residents should be advised that York Street will be temporarily closed during the marathon’s start.
“This edition’s lifestyle feature introduces an ‘AI Podcast,’ which complements the ‘Future is Now’ heritage theme. It traces how St. George’s legacy of modernization—from early electricity and plumbing to today’s digital conveniences—continues to shape everyday life. In the UNESCO Spotlight, we turn to King’s Square, the historic heart of town. We also recap Poetry Day, where local students shared powerful original work with peers, families, and community leaders. The Corporation thanks all who made the event a success, especially the Caisey family, Minister Crystal Caesar, and community sponsors, including Tobacco Bay, Churchill’s, Saltwater Jewellery + Designs, and others. Special thanks to Bernews for their coverage and to Food Hub for providing a much-loved lunch. Councillor Spotlight features Lynwood Trott, financial guru and chair of the Finance Committee.
