A former Bermuda captain, Smith made history in his first year as a head coach last term, leading Rhode Island to the Eastern Conference final in their inaugural season.
Rhode Island face the New England Revolution, who Smith enjoyed a successful stint as a player, in the US Open Cup on Wednesday.
