Tennis: Trey Mallory & UNCW Win CAA Title
Trey Mallory and his top-seeded University of North Carolina Wilmington [UNCW] men’s tennis teammates defeated No. 2 Elon 4-2 to win the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association Championship.
The victory marks UNCW’s fifth consecutive CAA title and their 11th overall. UNCW has now defeated Elon in the finals for the fourth straight season at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
UNCW secured the doubles point early. In the No. 1 doubles match, Bermudian Mallory and teammate Aleex de Gabriele were leading Elon’s Rafael Ymer and Jack Curtis 5-4 when UNCW clinched the overall doubles point with victories in the first and third positions.
Elon responded in singles play, tying the match at 1-1 after Jack Curtis defeated Mallory 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles match. However, UNCW regained control with decisive wins in the first, second, and third singles matches, securing their fifth consecutive CAA Championship.
