Applications Open For Human Rights Tribunal
The Selection and Appointment Committee is inviting applications from the public to serve on Bermuda’s Human Rights Tribunal.
A spokesperson said, “The Selection and Appointment Committee [SAC] established in accordance with Section 13A of the Human Rights Act 1981, as amended, is now inviting applications from members of the public to serve on Bermuda’s Human Rights Tribunal.
“This independent panel is an important arm of the human rights framework in Bermuda, which plays a vital role in hearing and determining human rights complaints, and in safeguarding, dignity and justice for all members of our society.”
SAC Head, Mr. Seth Darrell stated, “The Selection and Appointment Committee is seeking individuals with experience, interest in, understanding or knowledge of human rights law or human rights issues. Those applying for Chair positions must be qualified barristers and attorneys with at least five years’ standing and have knowledge of human rights law.
“To avoid potential conflicts of interest, current members of the Judiciary, Legislature and Public Service are not eligible to apply.
“This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the advancement of human rights in Bermuda. Serving on the Human Rights Tribunal allows individuals to contribute their distinct experiences and perspectives to a process grounded in integrity, impartiality, and understanding.”
The spokesperson said, “Tribunal panel members receive compensation per hearing.
“Applications must be submitted online by 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at www.humanrights.bm. Applicants should apply here. For assistance or accommodations, email SAC@humanrights.bm or call [441] 295-5859.”
Mr. Darrell concluded, “We encourage applications from all eligible individuals, including those who may not have previously seen themselves in a role like this. Your voice matters. By stepping forward, you can help ensure the Tribunal truly reflects the breadth of voices and lived realities across our community.”
