FrayStar Shaping Bermudian Cricket
The FrayStar Cricket Institute is transforming the landscape of Bermudian cricket and youth development.
Since its launch, the programme has provided a nurturing environment where boys and girls aged 5 to 17can learn the fundamentals of cricket while developing essential life skills.
Founded by decorated Regimental Sergeant Major Terry Fray and seasoned youth advocate Debra James, the Institute is rooted in the belief that sport can be a “transformative vehicle for life success.”
A Vision Backed by Results
A spokesperson noted the growing impact of the programme.
“That belief has paid off – in just a short time, the Institute has seen a surge in enrollment, stronger player retention, and a rising standard of play across all age groups,” they said.
“What sets FrayStar apart is its unique balance of structure and care. While Fray instills discipline, cricketing knowledge, and high performance, James ensures that operations are handled with warmth, care, and laser-focused organisation. Their shared leadership has turned vision into reality – one player, one session, one breakthrough at a time.”
A Coaching Team Like No Other
FrayStar boasts one of the most accomplished coaching teams in Bermuda, combining international experience with local excellence.
Each coach is deeply committed to developing not just cricket skills, but also character and leadership.
“FrayStar’s coaching line-up is one of the most distinguished assembled in Bermuda. From international veterans to promising young role models, each coach brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to shaping well-rounded athletes,” the spokesperson said.
“Together, they deliver not only elite-level technical instruction but also guidance in resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship.”

• Gus Logie – Internationally renowned coach and former West Indies player
• Terryn Fray – Bermuda national team captain and multi-title-winning leader

Major Milestones: Pee Wee Success and School Integration
This year marked two key milestones in FrayStar’s journey. The launch of the Pee Wee Cricket Programme for ages 5-7 introduced the sport to the youngest players in a fun and engaging way.
“With strong support from coach Debbie James, who also coaches under-7 football, the programme thrived beyond expectation – leaving several children eager to continue wearing their uniforms even after the final session,” the spokesperson added.
At the same time, FrayStar’s partnership with Saltus Grammar School has revolutionized the school’s junior and middle school cricket programmes.
“Students now receive structured training during the academic year, resulting in noticeable improvements in coordination, confidence, and game IQ,” said the spokesperson.
The UK Development Tour: A Bold Step Forward
Next month, FrayStar will embark on its first UK Development Tour, competing in the prestigious Kings College Cricket Festival under the guidance of UK coaches Keith Parsons and Phil Lewis.
Fray said: “This tour is about showing our young cricketers what’s possible.
“Exposure to that level of play will elevate everything they do going forward.”
Driving Impact at Home
The skills gained through the Institute are already making waves across the island.
FrayStar believe their players are returning to their clubs with “sharper skills, greater discipline, and a team-first mindset” – helping to raise the standard of youth cricket island-wide.
James said: “Our programme is demanding, but it’s also deeply rewarding. We’re not just coaching athletes – we’re shaping character, confidence, and leadership.”
Investing in the Future
FrayStar’s growth has been largely self-funded, a testament to the founders’ dedication and the community’s belief in their mission.
To support the UK tour and other development efforts, the Institute continues to raise funds through donations and dinner ticket sales.
“We pour every cent back into our players,” James said. “This is about community investment in our children’s future.”
