Phillips Reaches Consolation Final In St. Louis
Bermudian pickleball player Amani Phillips reached the Back Draw/Consolation final in the Women’s Open Division at the APP Next $15K Pickleball Tournament in St. Louis. The tournament featured 80 players under 23 competing for a $15,000 prize.
Phillips opened her Women’s Open First Round match with a 21-9 victory over American Ansley Drenner. In mixed doubles, Phillips and partner Carlos Rodriguez of Puerto Rico were defeated by Americans Dylan Wilhelm and Drenner in three sets: 11-6, 9-11, 11-4. Phillips’ main draw singles run ended in the Second Round with a 21-9 loss to Australia’s Emilia Schmidt.
Phillips then advanced through the Back Draw/Consolation Round. After a Second Round bye, she moved forward when American opponent Volly Johnson withdrew due to injury. Phillips defeated American Emma Nelson 16-14 in the Fourth Round and Jade Rau of America 15-8 in the Fifth Round.
In the Sixth Round semifinals, Phillips defeated American Lauren Mercado 15-9, advancing to the final. She lost to American Brooke Revuelta 15-13 in the final.
