Triathlete Megan Berry said she is “excited and nervous” about making her debut at the International Island Games in Orkney, Scotland, tomorrow [July 13].
The 31-year-old will be the first Team Bermuda athlete in action at the biennial Games when she competes at the Stomness Marina Slip at 4am BDA time.
“I’m very nervous, but it’s going to be fun – I don’t know what to expect,” she told Bernews.
“It’s amazing to be here – it’s a beautiful Island.
“I did the swim and bike route this morning to familiarise ourselves with the course.”
Berry hopes the unseasonably sunny weather on the archipelago plays to her advantage.
“Hopefully the beautiful weather works in my favour!” she said.
A former track and field athlete, Berry said she decided to take up triathlon two years ago and has fallen in love with the sport.
“I’ve been swimming and running since I was kid and stopped competing in my teens,” she added.
“I did do some running while I was at university [the University of Exeter, England].
“About two years ago, I decided I wanted to give triathlon a try.
“It’s been a two-year journey that’s landed me here.”
