It was a day to remember for Bermuda at the Island Games in Orkney yesterday [July 17], with medals earned in golf, athletics, and standout performances from both football teams securing places in their respective finals.
Sienna Mosquera got the momentum going by clinching bronze in the women’s golf competition during her Island Games debut.
The 18-year-old carded a four-round total of 299, highlighted by a stunning second-round 65 on Tuesday that broke the women’s course record at Orkney Golf Club and catapulted her into medal contention.
Her other rounds were 82, 78, and 74.
“I’m so happy. I stayed confident with my shots and managed to win a medal. It feels awesome,” she told Bernews.

Bermuda’s men’s and women’s football teams are both through to the finals after impressive semi-final victories.
The men beat Jersey in a five-goal thriller, capped by a last-gasp winner from Jace Donawa in the 120th minute of extra time.
The match had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Andrew Armstrong equalising in the 84th minute following an early strike by Jersey’s Harrison Moon.
Moments after levelling, Bermuda had a chance to take the lead from the penalty spot, but Hayden Dill’s effort was saved.
Jersey regained the lead in the 104th minute through Sonny Cassidy, only for Keyni Mills to draw Bermuda level once again in the 118th.
Then came Donawa’s dramatic winner, securing a sensational 3-2 comeback.

In the women’s semi-final, Bermuda defeated Gozo 3-0 as they moved closer to defending the title they won in Guernsey two years ago.
Jaden Masters opened the scoring with a curling strike in the 56th minute.
Emily Cabral added a second in the 78th with a composed finish, and Symira Lowe-Darrell wrapped up the victory in the 90th minute.
Coach Naquita Robinson’s team face the Isle of Man in the final tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. Bermuda time.
In badminton, Emma Moran-Lee claimed runner-up honours in the women’s singles plate competition, earning her first Island Games medal.
“It’s the first medal I’ve won for Bermuda at the Island Games – I’m delighted!” said Moran-Lee, who teaches at Somersfield Academy.
“I had to win five matches to get there and had a tough game against Greenland in the semi-finals.
“Every year, I think about stopping, but this just makes me want to carry on.”
