Hamilton Lions Cub member Shivya Arun Konaru has extended the club’s reach internationally through a charitable initiative in India.

Shivya, an eight-year-old student at Somerset Primary School, and her mother, Shubratha Arun Konaru, a member of the Eastern Lions Club, visited the Biligiriranga Hills in Karnataka, where they met with the Lions Club of Parisara.

During the visit, Shivya donated raincoats and books to 150 children.

“Shivya had the opportunity to meet and learn about the lifestyle of tribal children,” read a post on the Lions Clubs of Bermuda social media.
“During the rainy season, many of these children miss school due to lack of proper rain gear.

“Determined to make a difference, Cub Shivya with $500 she raised herself, along with contributions from Eastern Lions Club members, donated raincoats and books to 150 children, helping them attend school regularly and empowering them to grow into future leaders, just like our Hamilton Cubs.”

The Hamilton Lions Club launched the island’s first Cubs programme, which teaches youngsters the joy of volunteering and the importance of helping others, in October 2023. The programme is for youngsters aged four to 12.
