Krista Dyer Finishes Fourth In China
Krista Dyer narrowly missed out on a podium finish at the World Games in Chengdu, China, today [August 12], losing to Egypt’s Aly Menaalla in the bronze medal bout of the women’s 70kg Sanda competition.
The Bermudian, representing the Bermuda Sanshou Association, was defeated on points in what proved to be a hard-fought contest.
Despite the loss, Dyer described competing at the Games as a “fantastic experience.”
She told Bernews: “There were elements of my performance that I’m proud of. There were also things I know I can improve upon.”
Dyer will remain in Chengdu for a training camp at Chengdu Sports University under coach Wu, a former Sanda world champion, as she prepares for the World Wushu Championships in Brasilia, Brazil, from September 1 to 7.
Garon Wilkinson, president of the Bermuda Sanshou Association and part of Dyer’s support team in China, praised her determination, especially competing in a higher weight class than usual.
“Krista fought extremely well in the semi-finals against her Iranian opponent, who went on to win the gold medal,” Wilkinson told Bernews.
“In the bronze medal match against her Egyptian opponent, the scorecards were very close.”
