Male Dies After Collision In Smith’s Parish
[Updated] A collision involving a motorcycle and a motorcar occurred near the junction of Harrington Hundreds Road and Knapton Hill this evening [Aug 24].
A police spokesperson said, “There has been a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a motorcar near the junction of Harrington Hundreds Road and Knapton Hill.
“As a result, the roadway has now been closed off to vehicle traffic.
“Diversions are in place at the junction of Harrington Sound Road and Knapton Hill, as well as at the junction of Knapton Hill and Harrington Hundreds Road.
“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to get to their destinations.”
Update 10.17pm: The police have confirmed the sad news that the male motorcycle rider has died.
A police spokesperson said, “Shortly after 5:30 PM on Sunday, August 24, 202, Police and Emergency Medical Services along with the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service, were dispatched to a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a motorcar, just east of the junction of Knapton Hill and Harrington Hundreds Road, Smith’s.
“Initial reports indicate the vehicles were traveling in opposite directions along Knapton Hill, when they became involved in a head-on collision. Upon arrival, first responders found the male motorcycle rider lying unresponsive on the roadway. They immediately commenced life saving measures.
“He was subsequently transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further treatment of his injuries, which were considered life-threatening. Sadly, he succumbed shortly thereafter.
“The female motorcar driver did not appear to be injured. An investigation into this incident is now underway and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Constable Dennis Joell on 717-2221 or via e-mail djoell@bps.bm.
