Southampton Council Awards Six Scholarships
The Southampton Parish Council has awarded scholarships to six students — Myeisha Sharrieff, Enrique Mendes, Jahkaida Francis-Hollis, Sanjayah Allwood, Alay Burgess-Rocker, and Noah Hayward — to support their further education.
A spokesperson said, “The Southampton Parish Council recently awarded scholarships to students of Southampton Parish to assist with their further education.
This year’s Recipients are:
“Ms. Myeisha Sharrieff, a swimmer who competes for Bermuda and Howard University. Myeisha is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance with a concentration in Risk Management and Insurance while committed to a gruelling training and competing schedule.
“Mr. Enrique Mendes, a student athlete and aspiring architect who is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis on Entrepreneurship and Small Business Science Degree at Husson University in Maine, USA.
“Ms. Jahkaida Francis-Hollis is pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing, with an intention to return to Bermuda as Paediatric Nurse. Ms. Francis-Hollis is gaining invaluable experience working part-time at Rehabilitation and Health Center while studying.
“Ms. Sanjayah Allwood is continuing to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Health & Social Work at the University of Bolton. A deeply empathetic young person, Sanjayah volunteers in Bermuda and abroad serving vulnerable people with care and compassion.
“After exceeding all expectations in secondary school, Ms. Alay Burgess-Rocker a proud, driven, and self-confident young Bermudian is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Actuarial Science at St. John’s University.
“Mr. Noah Hayward with a myriad of hobbies and skills from steel pan to field hockey, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree with a concentration in Forensic Science at Ontario Tech University.”
Scholarship Committee Chair Mr. Corey Butterfield stated: “Along with reading books to Southampton’s school children on World Book Day, tangibly assisting Southampton’s students achieve their academic goals is extremely rewarding. Each year we are impressed with the quality of Scholarship Applicants and this year they were exceptional. In fact, the Committee voted to alter its policy to ensure the maximum number of Candidates were awarded. We wish them all the very best for the upcoming year.”
