New Appointments To Human Rights Tribunal

Changez Khan, Melvin Douglas, Dean Parris and Ryan Robinson Perinchief have been appointed to Bermuda’s Human Rights Tribunal panel.

A spokesperson said, “The Selection and Appointment Committee [SAC] for the Human Rights Tribunal, established in accordance with Section 13A of the Human Rights Act 1981 [Act], today announced the appointed members to Bermuda’s Human Rights Tribunal panel.

“The Human Rights Tribunal is responsible for presiding over and adjudicating human rights complaints referred to them by the Executive Officer of the Human Rights Commission. The Human Rights Tribunal panel consists of 12 to 15 people, including the Chair and Deputy Chair.”

The Head of the SAC, Seth Darrell stated, “Following a thorough evaluation process to ensure discerning minds and principled custodians assume responsibility, I am pleased to announce the appointment of new panel members Changez Khan, Melvin Douglas, Dean Parris and Ryan Robinson Perinchief. I am also pleased to announce the reappointment of Christina Herrero [Chair], Steven White [Deputy Chair], Claire van Overdijk, Christopher Cunningham, Sita Ingram and Casey Schuler. These ten persons join the five panel members currently empaneled.

“Each appointee possesses a record of excellence, a keen jurisprudential insight and a dedication to ensuring the application of the law, guaranteeing that each case before the Human Rights Tribunal is adjudicated with impartiality.”

Mr. Darrell concluded, “On behalf of the Selection and Appointment Committee, I welcome both the newly appointed and reappointed members to Bermuda’s Human Rights Tribunal.”

The SAC comprises Seth Darrell, Cherie Dill, MP Robin Tucker, Chiara Nannini and Dennis Pimentel.
