Bermudian cricketer Dennico Hollis is set to re-join Bailey’s Bay after spending the past seven seasons with Stenhousemuir in Scotland.

The all-rounder swapped the sun-drenched island for the harsher climes of the Central Lowlands in 2018 in search of a new challenge – and insists the move has been nothing short of life-changing.

He is among several Bermudian players to have ventured north of the border, including Alma [Champ] Hunt, Clarence Parfitt, Lionel Cann, Del Hollis and Treadwell Gibbons Jr.

“It’s been a great experience,” Hollis told Bernews. “Playing out here has taught me how to be professional on and off the field. It’s an amateur sport, but we play in a semi-professional environment.

“I definitely had to up my game to compete at this level. I’ve learned a lot over the past seven years. It feels bittersweet to be leaving Scotland.”

During his time with Stenhousemuir, Hollis, 37, served as vice-captain of the First XI and helped the club win promotion to the Western Premiership One in 2022.

This season, he represented both the First and Second XI teams, scoring his maiden century with an unbeaten 100 against Sterling before adding 126 not out against Nunholm.

He also claimed the first hat-trick of his career in a T20 match against Tunnuck’s Uddingston.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Stenhousemuir for everything they have done for me,” Hollis said.

“The club has come a long way since I joined seven years ago. It’s been an absolute joy and something I’ve wanted to experience since I was a kid.

“I wanted to be a pro cricketer, and although that didn’t happen, I feel I experienced a professional environment in Scotland. I’ll take that every day of the week.”

Hollis, a product of the Western Stars youth programme, joined Bay at 17 and now hopes to use his experience to support the next generation of players.

“I’ll look to play for as long as my body will allow me to,” said the former Bermuda national team player.

“I just want to try and set an example for the up-and-coming cricketers.

“Bay are a young team, so hopefully my experience and professionalism can help.”
