Videos: Athletes At Wushu Championships
Three Bermudian athletes — Krista Dyer, Ryah Symonds, and Kaelin Cox — showcased their skills at the World Wushu Championships in Brasília, Brazil.
In the women’s Sanda [Chinese kickboxing] quarter-finals, Krista Dyer faced off against Turkey’s Sudenaz Gulay in the 65kg division, while team-mate Ryah Symonds fought esteemed Iranian Soheila Semiromi in the 70kg category.
Despite their determined efforts, both Bermudians fell short against their experienced opponents.
Meanwhile, in the men’s Taolu discipline, Kaelin Cox returned to action for his second event of the tournament, competing in the southern broadsword [Nandao].
Cox earned a score of 6.896 for his performance to finish in 32nd place.
Bermuda Sanshou Association president Garon Wilkinson and coaches Dwayne Cox, Chaquita Simmons, and Adriano Lourenco da Silva have travelled with the team.
“I’m pleased with all three athletes’ performances – it’s just the results didn’t go our way today,” Wilkinson told Bernews.
