[Updated] The Bermuda Police Service proudly marked the achievements of its newest officers during the Recruit Foundation Course 85 Passing Out Ceremony held on October 9th.

Update 7.12pm: A police spokesperson said, “The Passing Out Parade for Recruit Foundation Course [RFC] 85 took place 4pm Thursday, 9th October 2025 at Royal Bermuda Regiment headquarters, Warwick Camp.

“14 Constables, consisting of five women and nine men were on parade, accompanied by the Bermuda Island Pipe Band, under the command of Pipe Major Aidan Stones. They were led by the Parade Commander, Acting Inspector Anton Gilbert.

“The newest members of the Bermuda Police Service [BPS] are:

  • Constable 2617 Ameen Azeez
  • Constable 2620 Giovanni DeBraga
  • Constable 2642 Cody Ballard
  • Constable 2643 India Cheeseman
  • Constable 2644 Shane Da Costa
  • Constable 2645 Tyaneil Darrell
  • Constable 2646 Nasojah Hall
  • Constable 2647 Nasojay Hall
  • Constable 2648 Madelyn Moore
  • Constable 2649 Leanna Stewart

“Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Martin Weekes, on behalf of the men and women of the Bermuda Police Service, congratulated and welcomed the 14 new officers into the Bermuda Police Service family.

“Dignitaries in attendance included: His Excellency the Governor, Andrew Murdoch CMG and Minister of National Security, the Hon. Michael Weeks, JP, MP. Both spoke at Thursday’s ceremony.

“Special guests in attendance included:

  • Shadow Minister of National Security – The Hon. Mr. Ben Smith JP, MP
  • Permanent Secretary of National Security – Lt. Col. Edward Lamb [Ret.]
  • Commanding Officer of the Royal Bermuda Regiment – Lt. Col. Duncan Simons
  • Honorary Colonel of The Royal Bermuda Regiment – Lt. Col. David Gibbons O.B.E. [Mil], ED, JP
  • Collector of Customs – Ms. Cindy Pearman
  • Director of Public Prosecutions – Ms. Cindy Clarke, JP
  • Chief Fire Officer – Mr. Dana Lovell
  • Commissioner of Corrections – Mrs. Keeva-Joell Benjamin
  • Chairman of the Police Complaints Authority – Mr. Jeffrey Elkinson
  • Bermuda Reserve Police – Inspector Mikkel Harris
  • Centre Against Abuse – Executive Director Mrs. Laurie Shiell-Smith

“There were several awards presented during the ceremony. The awards and recipients were:

“Athletic Awards – The Instructors Cup is an award that is given to the fastest male and female officer over the International 10 kilometre or 6 mile Flatts road running course.

  • “The Instructors Cup was presented to Constable Madelyn Moore for the fastest time in the female category.
  • “The Instructors Cup was presented to Constable Tyaneil Darrell for the fastest time in the male category.

“All Round Athlete & Physical Fitness Awards

  • “Constable Madelyn Moore [female].
  • “Constable Tyaneil Darrell [male].

“Deputy Commissioner’s Cup – This award is for the best effort on the course and the officer who has made the most significant progress.

  • “Awarded to Constable Channice Thompson.

“Charitable Presentation – It is a tradition of each Recruit Foundation Course to raise money in aid of a charity of their choice. All members of RFC 85 decided that the Centre Against Abuse would be the recipient of their charitable donation.

“A cheque for $1,633 was presented to Centre Against Abuse Executive Director Mrs. Laurie Shiell-Smith, by Constable Channice Thompson.

“Academic Award – Awarded to Constable Ameen Azeez, who achieved an overall test average of 91% over 13 exams.

“Commissioner’s Shield – Awarded to Blue Syndicate, led by Training Centre staff member Constable Jenea Smith; consisting of Constable Ameen Azeez, Constable Cody Ballard, Constable India Cheeseman, Constable Tyaneil Darrell, Constable Nasojah Hall, Constable Channice Thompson and Constable Enshe-Nico Wade-Davis. The award was collected by Constable Enshe-Nico Wade-Davis.

“Baton of Honour Recipient: Constable Tyaneil Darrell – The Baton of Honour was presented by RFC 84 Baton of Honour recipient, Constable Khamp Edwards, to RFC 85 Constable Tyaneil Darrell, who was selected as the most distinguished student officer by the Training Centre staff.”
