Students, staff, and volunteers from the Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning raised $14,057 for the school’s Bursary Fund during their largest fundraiser of the year, the Splash for Cash Polar Plunge.
A spokesperson said, “Under brilliant blue skies last week, students and staff from the Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning [BCCL] braved the chilly waters off Hawkins Island for the school’s largest fundraiser of the year — the Splash for Cash Polar Plunge.
“At 9 a.m., 55 students and 25 staff and volunteers set out from Albouy’s Point, travelling to Hawkins Island thanks to the generous support of BCCL friends who provided their own boats, along with the Hawkins Island team aboard Sherwater. The event saw 100% participation from students, each of whom raised a minimum of $100 in support of BCCL’s Bursary Fund — with many far exceeding that goal.
“Together, the school community raised an impressive $14,057, with the Upper Middle Years homeroom leading the charge, bringing in $5,308. A highlight of the day came when an anonymous donor pledged a surprise $2,000 at the last moment — prompting one brave volunteer to take an unexpected plunge!
“After their exhilarating dip, participants warmed up with a hearty breakfast of pancakes, bacon, fruit, and hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and marshmallows before heading back to Hamilton aboard El Zoro, captained by Chris Maughan.
“BCCL extends heartfelt thanks to the Cox Family, the Waterfront Group of Companies, the Hawkins Island team, El Zoro and all donors and volunteers who made the day such a success. Funds raised will directly support BCCL’s Bursary Fund, helping ensure that children with learning differences can continue to access the personalized education they need to thrive.”
