Athletes Shine At Pickleball Tournament
The Pickleball Association of Bermuda has celebrated an impressive showing by local athletes at the International Pickleball Tournament, held just before the Pickleball World Cup, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
More than 30 Bermudian competitors took part, reflecting an impressive cross-section of ages and backgrounds that included juniors as young as eight and seasoned players in senior divisions.
Bermuda finished a superb eighth place in medals table out of 69 countries.
They captured a total of 21 medals: six gold, eight silver and seven bronze.
Among Bermuda’s inspirational stories were junior athletes Kai Manders, 8, Owen Stewart, 14, and Jaden Jones, 15. Stewart earned silver in an adult division.
In the senior ranks, Wenda Roberts delivered a standout performance, capturing double gold in both the 50-plus and 65-plus brackets.
Sasha Fisher, the national coach, said: “I am incredibly proud to see our athletes compete with such heart at this year’s International Tournament.
“We brought ‘small but mighty’ energy to every match, showcasing Bermuda’s unity, determination, and our growing presence among the world’s strongest pickleball nations.”
George Thomas, president of the Pickleball Association of Bermuda, said: “This medal count is a testament to the passion and commitment of Bermudian athletes, coaches, and supporters.
“Performing at this level on the international stage –facing countries with populations hundreds of times larger – shows just how special our pickleball community is, and how high our sights for the future have been set.”
