PLP To Host 62nd Anniversary Gala On Nov 8th
The PLP will host their 62nd Anniversary Black Tie Gala on Saturday, November 8th at the Hamilton Princess under the theme “Leading for the Next Generation.”
A spokesperson said, “The Progressive Labour Party [PLP] announces that the keynote speaker for the upcoming 62nd Anniversary Black Tie Gala will now be the Honourable E.P. Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda. The attendees will also hear messages from the Dr. the Honourable Geoffrey Hanley, Deputy Prime Minister & Deputy Political Leader of St. Kitts & Nevis and the Honourable E. David Burt, Premier & Party Leader
“The Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew of St. Kitts and Nevis, originally scheduled to deliver the keynote address, is unable to attend due to the impact of Hurricane Melissa and adjustments to his regional obligations. Prime Minister Drew has been called to represent the Caribbean region at the upcoming EU-CELAC meeting in his capacity as the incoming Chair of CARICOM. Prime Minister Drew has expressed his regret at being unable to attend and has extended his best wishes to the Party for a successful and memorable event.
“The PLP is honoured to welcome Minister Chet Greene as the evening’s keynote speaker. He is recognised across the region for his leadership in advancing trade, diplomacy, and regional cooperation through his work with CARICOM, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, and the World Trade Organization.”
PLP Chairman Dawn Simmons said, “We know many were looking forward to hearing from Prime Minister Drew, especially members of the Kittitian and Nevisian community here in Bermuda. We understand their disappointment and extend our thanks for their continued support. We hope that this change will not deter anyone from joining us for what promises to be a wonderful evening of celebration.”
Simmons continued by saying, “We are grateful to Minister Greene, who has graciously agreed to step in. His presence as a respected regional leader will bring a valuable perspective and inspiration as we reflect on our theme, ‘Leading for the Next Generation.’ We look forward to welcoming the Caribbean communities represented in Bermuda, along with our local supporters, to share in this evening of unity and pride.”
Premier David Burt added, “This year’s PLP Gala is especially meaningful for me, as it will be my final Gala in this capacity as Premier. While we are disappointed that Prime Minister Drew cannot join us, he has an important responsibility to represent the Caribbean region at the EU-CELAC meeting as the incoming Chair of CARICOM.
“As we welcome the Honourable E.P. Chet Greene of Antigua and Barbuda as our keynote speaker, and look forward to hosting Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley, we continue to uphold the spirit of collaboration among the CARICOM family.”
A spokesperson added, “The PLP 62nd Anniversary Black Tie Gala will be held on Saturday, November 8th, 2025, at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, under the theme “Leading for the Next Generation.” The event will begin with cocktails at 6:00 PM, followed by dinner and the official programme at 7:00 PM.
